Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, the 19th Tribeca Film Festival Awards Ceremony streamed their first-ever “home edition” last April led by co-founders Robert DeNiro and Jane Rosenthal. With the participation of the 2020 jurors which include Chris Pine, Gretchen Mol, Josh Hutcherson, Joel McHale, and Lukas Haas, the New York film fest announced this year’s biggest winner is Netflix’s coming-of-age gay-themed flick “The Half of It” in time for its May 1 release.
“The Half of It” tells the story of shy, straight-A student Ellie who’s hired by sweet but inarticulate jock Paul, who needs help winning over a popular girl. But their new and unlikely friendship gets complicated when Ellie discovers she has feelings for the same girl.
Rotten Tomatoes has big words for the film: “For viewers in search of an uncommonly smart, tender, and funny coming-of-age story, The Half of It has everything.” Based on 51 reviews, “The Half Of It” holds an approval rating of 96%
“The Half Of It” stars Leah Lewis as Ellie Chu, Daniel Diemer as Paul Munsky, and Alexxis Lemire as Aster Flores.
Directed by Alice Wu, the film is now streaming on Netflix.
