Puerto Rico Wins Miss Earth 2019

Puerto Rico bagged their first Miss Earth crown when Nellys Pimentel bested 84 contestants in the 2019 edition of the pageant on Saturday, October 26 at The Cove in Okada Manila. She made history for Puerto Rico to become the fourth country to win at least a title in the Big Four international beauty pageants. Nguyễn Phương Khánh of Vietnam crowned her successor at the event.

Nellys was asked during the Q&A segment how she would convince those who don’t believe in climate change that it is a serious problem.

Her winning answer: “I would have to say that addressing this issue of people not believing in climate change is more of a matter of lack of education and not only a lack of education but also the ignorance and not wanting to inform themselves of the fact that we are living in a planet that is our biggest home, and we have taken advantage of it instead of putting back what it is giving to us.”

This year’s runner-up is Emanii Davis from the USA (Miss Air 2019). Klara Vavruskova from Czech Republic was named Miss Water 2019 and Miss Fire 2019 is Alisa Manyonok from Belarus
