‘SOCO sa DZMM’ and ‘Radyo Negosyo’ Hold DZMM Kapamilya Day

A comfortable life far from harm and violence is every Filipino’s dream for his or her family. It is also what keeps DZMM anchors Dr. Carl Balita, David Oro, and Gus Abelgas motivated in delivering public service through their programs “Radyo Negosyo” and “SOCO sa DZMM” on DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 and DZMM TeleRadyo.

Carl’s “Radyo Negosyo,” which has been on air for 18 years already, continues to deliver information, inspiration, and support to aspiring entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, “SOCO sa DZMM” has also been helping solve cases and bring justice to victims of crime through tackling police stories in the program for over a decade.

The three anchors shared their stories and advocacies to members of the media on Friday (November 9) at Novotel in Cubao, Quezon City as they celebrate another year of being in the service of the Filipino.

Since he made a name from his review centers here and abroad, registered nurse and midwife and licensed educator Carl has been relentless in sharing his knowledge and expertise in business to Filipinos, especially the masses, through the show. He said they are able to give public service that is different from the usual. “Usually, when you say public service, it involves dole outs. What we do is teaching the man how to fish, so to speak, to help him earn on his own and help himself and his family,” he shared.

Carl started out as a guest in the program in 2000, until he was invited to be an anchor when they saw his potential in public speaking and relating to the masses. Since then he has helped push many small businesses that they would feature in the show and up to this day, more are benefitting from his “P500 Challenge,” where a person starts a business with only five hundred pesos as capital.

His advice to people starting a business is to be firm and determined. “It starts with the decision to start a business. Then your product or service should be innovative because a business should provide a solution. Passion is also very important so you can grow the business,” he said.

While Carl aims for the financial success of Filipinos, veteran police reporters and anchors David and Gus are focused in keeping Filipinos safe from crime and bringing to justice those who bring harm to others.

“Sometimes it is complacency that causes us to become victims especially in times when we least expect it. Through watching and listening to ‘SOCO sa DZMM,’ you will get ideas on how to prevent becoming a victim of crime and be reminded of things we tend to overlook or forget,” said David, who has been with ABS-CBN for over 30 years like his partner Gus.

Apart from providing warning and caution to people, the program is also able to help solve cases and bring closure to the families’ of victims through the broadcast of details on the suspects, through coordinating with the authorities, and through accepting tips and information from the public through the show.

“What is most important is that people who witnessed an incident to take action. In our culture, we’d rather keep quiet and do nothing when we are not directly affected. We have to help, even in a small way. Let us not wait that the crime happens to us or someone we love,” said Gus, who has helped close cases after getting admissions from suspects in his shows.

Last October, DZMM brought “SOCO sa DZMM” to San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan for another leg of DZMM Kapamilya Day. There, David and Gus discussed the usual crimes in the area. Residents also enjoyed different services like free haircuts, massage, reading glasses, plus games and raffle, storytelling for kids, and snacks.

This November is Carl and “Radyo Negosyo’s” turn to visit a community in Quezon City for DZMM Kapamilya Day. Residents can expect many tips in starting and maintaining a business as Carl will be bringing with him some of his previous guests to share their success stories.
