Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte, along with other notable leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, landed on the cover of TIME Magazine’s May 14 international edition.

Dubbed as the “Rise of Strongman” with thge cover story titled “The ‘Strongmen Era’ Is Here. Here’s What It Means for You” and written by Ian Bremmer, the article was perceived as a compliment by Filipinos rather than criticism according to Malacanang.

“Regardless of slant, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has demonstrated strong and decisive leadership – a quality appreciated by Filipinos as evidenced by the Chief Executive’s high satisfaction, approval, trust and performance ratings,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
