Korean Horror Movie ‘Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum’ Now Showing in PH Cinemas

The horror movie that brought chills across Asia–Gojiam: Haunted Asylum–is finally showing in Philippine cinemas starting today.

Distributed by Viva International Pictures, “Gojiam: Haunted Asylum” is a found footage horror movie which tells the story of the crew of a horror web show who plan to stream live from inside the asylum. To attract more viewers, the show’s host arranges some scares for the team, but as they move further into the nightmarish old building, they begin to encounter much more than expected.

The film takes place inside the Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, one of the “7 Freakiest Places on the Planet” according to CNN Travel.

Directed by Jung Bum-shik, the film stars Wi Ha-joon as Ha-joon, Park Ji-hyun as Ji-hyun, Oh A-yeon as A-yeon, Moon Ye-won as Charlotte
Park, Sung-hoon as Sung-hoon, Yoo Je-yoon as Je-yoon, and Lee Seung-wook as Seung-wook.

“Gonjiam” bested Hollywood movie “Ready Player One” in Korean box office with US$19.2 million gross to date. It is now the second biggest grossing Korean horror film, behind 2003’s “A Tale of Two Sisters.”
