Gabay Guro: Behind Every Great Filipino is a Great Teacher

Teachers. They take charge of the children who will take charge of the nation in the future. And behind every great Filipino is a great teacher who served as a role model for them and inspired and encouraged them to strive for greatness.

This is why 10 years ago, PLDT-SMART Foundation launched an advocacy that will honor the importance of educators in nation building. Through scholarships, trainings, housing/educational facilities, livelihood programs, teachers’ tribute and broadbanding/computerization, the Philippines’ largest telecommunications and digital services company show their appreciation to the hard work and dedication of the country’s beloved teachers.

Responsible for the annual execution of “Gabay Guro” are Chairman Chaye Cabal-Revilla and PLDT Brand Advocacy Head Gary Dujali. This year marks the foundation’s 10th anniversary and it did not fail to bring joy to nearly 20,000 teachers from across the country who converged at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, September 17, 2017.

For one day, they were entertained by the country’s brightest stars from Kapuso, Kapamilya, and Kapatid Networks like Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Sarah Geronimo, Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza, Joshua Garcia, McCoy de Leon, Elisse Joson, Nash Aguas, Michael Pangilinan, Jona, Alexa Ilacad, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Derek Ramsay, Lea Salonga, Marian Rivera, among others.

PLDT chair Manny V. Pangilinan said of the event, “It is really to honor the teachers who deserve to be honored. One day in a year, para handog namin sa kanila…giving thanks to them.”

DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said, “It is a great day for the entire year teachers work very, very hard. Here they are recognized and rewarded, and they are entertained and they deserve it.”

And speaking of rewards, PLDT-Smart and partner brands raffled off tons of prizes including a brand new Suzuki motorcycle, a Gratour Van from Foton, and a house and lot from Bella Vita.
