‘Kid Kulafu’ Makes Its Mark on Cinema One on July 9

After Manny Pacquiao’s heartbreaking loss to Australian boxer Jeff Horn in the “Battle of Brisbane” last weekend, it’s time to relive the Pinoy champ’s struggles before all the fame, the main events and championships, and be inspired with his humble beginnings in the premiere of his biographical sports drama “Kid Kulafu” on Cinema One this Sunday (July 9).

“Kid Kulafu” traces the eight-division world champion’s early years—back when he was known with a moniker alluding to a local liquor brand.

Buboy Villar portrays young Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, living a hand-to-mouth existence trying to survive from one day to the next. When he discovers his natural talent for boxing, he embarks on a brutal and intense journey that takes him from the amateur circuits in the mountain provinces to the slums of the big city. He must risk everything to become a champion – for himself, his family, and his country.

The film’s cast also include veteran stars Cesar Montano and Alessandra De Rossi, 2012 Cinema One Originals Best Actor Awardee Alex Medina, and 2017 Gawad Urian Best Actor nominee Khalil Ramos. It was produced and released by Star Cinema and Ten17 Productions, and directed by Paul Soriano.

Cinema One is the leading cable channel in the Philippines. Its programming includes a line-up of mainstream and independent local and foreign films, film related programming, and original content for television.

Get to know one of the world’s greatest boxers in “Kid Kulafu” on Cinema One’s “Blockbuster Sundays” this Sunday (July 9) at 8PM. Cinema One is available on SkyCable and Destiny Cable Digital Channel 56, and Destiny Analog Ch. 37. Like Cinema One on Facebook at facebook.com/Cinema1channel to view full schedule.
