Award-Winning Film ‘Sleepless’ Opens in Select SM Cinemas for Only P120

Cine Lokal brings the award-winning film “Sleepless” to select SM Cinemas from May 26 to June 1, 2017 for only P120 per ticket.

A QCinema International Film Festival crowd favorite, “Sleepless” topbills Encantadia star Glaiza de Castro and “I’m Drunk, I Love You” supporting actor Dominic Roco.

It tells the story of two lonely insomniacs. Both stuck in a rut and working in a call center, Gem (de Castro) and Barry (Roco) have their own personal problems that keep them awake at night. Gem can’t seem to let go of a stifling relationship while Barry can’t let go of a great loss. They explore the city and find ways to kill time. Though there’s a certain loneliness when you’re awake in the dead of night, there’s also a bond that develops. Gem and Barry talk about zombies, love and everything in between. Together they fight the loneliness that keeps them awake. In the end, they realize, that even though you cannot cure insomnia, you just need someone to lean on until the sun comes up.

During the pocket press conference for “Sleepless” on Tuesday, at Salu Restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City, Glaiza de Castro points out that the whole story is not revealed on the trailer.

“Sa ibang parts ng story nila like katulad kay Gem medyo conflicted siya e kasi meron siyang gustong gawin na hindi niya magawa kasi parang may nagho-hold back sa kanya. Siguro sabihin ko na lang ng konting spoiler lang, sa katauhan ni TJ Trinidad meron silang relationship na hindi ma-explain ni Gem kung ano sila. So ‘yun yung nagho-hold back sa kanya kung bakit hindi niya magawa ‘yung isang bagay na gusto niyang gawin. In terms of finding a person to talk to kapag hindi siya makatulog, siyempre lahat naman tayo siguro ginagawa natin ‘yun, kailangan lang talaga natin ilabas yung mga saloobin natin para mahimasmasan tayo ng konti,” she said.

Dominic Roco, who won Best Actor at the 2015 QCinema International Film Festival for his performance in this film adds, “It’s not a love story per se, but you would want the two lead characters to be together. There are just some things that couldn’t work because of the situation. I didn’t expect to win an award for it so I was shocked when my name was called. Glaiza is the perfect girlfriend, I know her as a person and anybody would be lucky to have someone like her.”

Aside from Roco’s win, “Sleepless” also bagged the NETPAC Jury Prize for Best Picture that year. And in 2016, the film became an official selection at the Osaka International Film Festival.

“Sleepless” is written by Jenilee Chuansu and directed by Prime Cruz, the team-up who brought us the modern monster love story “Ang Manananggal sa Unit 23-B” which gave Cruz his first Best Director award from the QCinema International Film Festival.

Produced by Jun Lana and Perci Intalan of the IdeaFirst Company, “Sleepless” gets a full solo run on all the screening times at Cine Lokal from May 26 to June 1, 2017 in SM Mall Of Asia, SM Megamall, SM North Edsa, SM Fairview, SM Southmall, SM Bacoor, SM Iloilo and SM Cebu. Admission is only P120!
