‘Kinky Boots’ to Star Laurence Mossman, Yanna Laurel and Nyoy Volante

Kinky Boots,” Cyndi Lauper’s Tony and Grammy Award winning musical, is finally hitting Philippine stage beginning June 30, 2017 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati.

Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group announced on Saturday, May 19, the full cast of “Kinky Boots” led by acoustic balladeer Nyoy Volante who will play the role of cross-dresser Simon/Lola. Although he was last seen on stage as Frankie Valli in “Jersey Boys,” the last time he cross-dressed and performed as a diva was in the ABS-CBN reality competition “Your Face Sounds Familiar” in 2015 where he impersonated Tina Turner, Sylvia La Torre, Katy Perry and Whitney Houston so the role is perfect for him.

Rising stage actor Laurence Mossman takes the role of Charlie Price. He was last seen playing multiple roles in the Lea Salonga-starrer “Fun Home.” Yanah Laurel, on the other hand, who was also last seen in “Fun Home” will portray the role of factory worker Lauren.

Joining them are Nel Gomez, Christine Flores, Rhenwyn Gabalonzo, Japs Treopaldo, Mark Pineda, Michael Jahnke, Ron Gohel, Sarah Facuri, Steven Cionde, Juancho Escoto, and former Miss Saigon cast member Tricia Canilao. Featured as the angels are Ritz Beltran, Mark Pineda, Jorge Jahnke, Michael Jahnke, Jazztin Cacayan, and Gerard Krysstopher.

Here is the synopsis of “Kinky Boots”:

After his father’s demise, Charlie Price (Laurence Mossman) inherits the family business, a shoe factory in Northampton, England. He is not interested in shoes, and the factory is in such dire financial straits that he must lay off 15 employees. However a fortuitous encounter with a transvestite cabaret singer (Nyoy Volante) inspires Charlie to save the factory from closure by producing erotic footwear, much to the chagrin of the workers.

“Kinky Boots” has won Best New Musical at the 2016 Olivier Award. The Philippine version is directed by Bobby Garcia, and it will feature the Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper.
