Miss Earth 2016 is Katherine Espin of Ecuador, Latinas Dominate

If Asian beauties rocked the Miss Grand International and Miss International pageants, it’s the year of the latinas on Miss Earth as Ecuador’s Katherine Espin emerged as the winner.

Espin’s runners up also came from Southern American countries namely Miss Earth-Fire Bruna Zanardo of Brazil, Miss Earth-Air Michelle Gomez of Colombia and Miss Earth-Water Stephanie de Zorzi of Venezuela.

This is the second time that Ecuador captured the Miss Earth crown, the first was in 2011 courtesy of Olga Alava.

Making it to the Top 8 are Russia (Aleksandra Cherepanová), Sweden (Cloie Syquia Skarne), USA (Corrin Stellakis), and Vietnam (Nguyen The Le Nam Em).

Making it to the Top 16 are Australia (Lyndl Kean), England (Luissa Burton), Italy (Denise Frigo), Korea (Chae-Yeung Lee), Macau (Clover Zhu), Mexico (Itzel Astudillo), Northern Ireland (Julieann McStravick), and South Africa (Nozipho Magagula).

This is the first time since 2007 that Philippines failed to enter the semifinals.

Miss Earth is considered as one of the Big 4 international pageants (“Grand Slam”) together with Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss International.
