Russell, together with two other English-speaking contestants, were given assignments by the judges during the audition round to sing a Filipino song and learn the language.

Can the 17-year-old make it to the next round?

  1. I so love you Russel, hope you can make it to the Top 5. I will support you till the end

    And the next one:

This is so on point. While watching this a while ago, I can’t help but shake my head with VG’s comments (no hate here). I’m pretty sure he’ll learn the language quickly. May trainings naman siguro sila or classes for that. Sila Dan Matsunaga, Sam Milby and other english speaking celebs used to have difficulty with the Filipino language pero ngayon diba? Marunong na sila. I’d like to listen to this guy. He got the talent. Sayang if he won’t make it…unless kunin siya talaga ng isang record label and gawin nalang siyang solo artist.

    Another fan’s comment:

Honestly, I just find it stupid if Russell doesn’t make it just because he can’t fully understand Tagalog. Learning a certain language would be easy especially if you get proper lessons/training (and that’s probably one of the things they would get if they make it into the boyband, right?) But a talent like this… it’s not something you can have just because you want it. If you compare Russell’s voice and his lack of ability to understand Tagalog, teaching him the language would be way easier than training

    Another good argument was this:

Vice huwag nating harangin ang pangarap ng isang tao dahil lang sa Fil-Am siya o hindi siya marunong mag-Tagalog.. Di ba yan ang advocacy mo about descrimination … na huwag kang husgahan dahil sa kung ano ka? That we have to be tolerant and give you a slack to prove yourself. If you say YES to this … then you can apply your advice to yourself for being judgmental. The way you answered Aga na this is PINOY Boyband Superstar is really full of vile … it is atrocious and obnoxious. Yon bang parang sinasabi mo na ang opinion ko lang ang pinakatama … at yon ang masusunod. And basing from the comments and the reaction in this forum … the people have spoken, Everybody loves Russell at ikaw is just playing Simon Cowell. Besides hindi naman ikaw ang pupuno sa mga concert venues ng mga ito eh. Yong mga fans here who really stood up in defense of Russell.

In your Magpasikat portion sa Showtime President Obama said: “People should be treated equal regardless of who they are”. And then you said later: ” Maraming pagkataon na may gusto tayo sa ating buhay, pero hindi natin magawa dahil TAYO AY NAHUSGAHAN NA … dahil hindi tayo HINAYAAN … at dahil wala tayong KALAYAAN.

Ngayon it is your time to JUDGE … and everybody is looking at YOU kung patas ka ngang lumaban. HUHUSGAHAN NAMIN ANG PAGIGING JUDGE MO!

    Here’s one of the comment:

Vice … isang payo lang huwag mong sayangin ang isang talent just because he don’t understand Tagalog. At huwag mong sabihin na hindi namin naintiedihan ang punto mo. We are all for it. The guy is very handsome and the camera loves him and he can sing, much better doon sa mga gusto mo … and he tries very hard to adjust. He can even be the group’s lead singer in the likes of Robby Rosa or Ricky Martin of Menudo. Assign all the English song’s to him and he will give the group a big support in case the song is Tagalog. Just as simple as that.

Please read the comments of the fans of Russel Reyes and his believers in You Tube. I think it was just phenomenal, how they stood up for him especially after Vice Ganda made some comments in the deliberation.

With all that reaction, I think A STAR IS BORN!
