Tenors of Rock is Coming to Manila

In Vino Veritas—or in English, “there’s truth in wine”. This may be what Gaz Richards was thinking when he was at a Cardiff pub with two other pals as he came up with the idea for Tenors of Rock. After having performed numerous musicals in the West End, his epiphany of staying true to his rocker self and innovating the standard male vocal group soon proved to be a stellar idea.

After big performances in Hyde Park for the London Olympics, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, the 17th European Bike Week in Austria, and their impressive performances in television’s The X Factor UK, Tenors of Rock are set to rock Manila this August 13 at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater.

Gaz Richards, David Richards, Jonathan Williams, Jimmy Denning, and Tommy Sherlock take on favorite rock classics from various rock acts such as AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Led Zepellin, Muse and more to create a rock opera fueled by a harmony of gritty tenor vocals that are sure to send audiences to the peak of rock and roll nirvana.

Prior to the creation of Tenors of Rock, the boys honed their vocal skills by joining musicals and fronting rock bands. Gaz attended the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and played the iconic role of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables at the European Youth Premiere when he was 19. Gaz then took a string of roles in such musicals as Bat Boy, My Land’s Shore, and Thorn Birds among others.

Wanting to add firepower to his Tenors of Rock brainchild, Gaz asked his rocker brother David to join in to what would become a vocal group that unleashes a brand new live sound.

Another member who has an impressive West End resume is Jonathan Williams who also played the role of Jean Valjean along with other notable performances in My Land’s Shore, Chess, Rent, and War of the Worlds.

Jimmy Denning comes from a family of entertainers with parents Jimmy and Sue performing in cruise ships, and sister Lara performing in West End shows. For the most part of his youth, Jimmy played in bands until he got breaks as a stage actor in musicals Buddy, Sister Act, Billy Elliott, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Les Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, We Will Rock You, and Wicked.

Tommy is also no stranger in theater having performed in musicals Matilda, Wicked, Hooray For Hollywood, Fame, Footloose, Fiddler on the Roof, Mamma Mia, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Nutcracker, Copacobana, and Don Quixote among others. He was formally trained at the Liverpool Theater School and College.

One thing that’s for sure, the five boys of Tenors of Rock are more than just the average finalists in a TV talent search, or proud thespians in London’s West End, or the typical English rugby fans. These boys give their all with each performance the way true rockers do placing them a notch higher than the usual boy band.
