Nike Drops Manny Pacquiao as Endorser After Describing LGBT as ‘Worse than Animals’
Global brand Nike announced on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, that it has terminated Manny Pacquiao’s endorsement contract after the boxer’s controversial remarks against the LGBT community hit headlines around the world.
In a video interview for TV5’s Bilang Pilipino 2016, the 8-time world boxing champion said that those in gay relationships “are worse than animals” (WATCH THE VIDEO HERE).
Nike released an official statement regarding the issue:
“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.”
And just like that, the 37-year-old Saranggani Representative who is running for Senator this May lost his million-dollar endorsement contract from Nike.
