ABS-CBN Execs to Inform and Inspire Future Mass Communicators at 2016 Pinoy Media Congress

Communication students from around the country will get an exclusive look at the inner workings of a multimedia network as ABS-CBN executives and subject matter experts will be sharing their insights on how the media can inspire and empower the Filipino people on ABS-CBN’s 10th Pinoy Media Congress (PMC), to be held at St. Mary’s College on February 18 and 19.

ABS-CBN will also hold a film viewing of restored Filipino film classics “Kakabakaba Ka Ba” and “Sana Maulit Muli” and a boot camp for prospective YouTube content creators to be conducted by the company’s online multi-channel network Chicken Pork Adobo for the student delegates on February 20. Multi-awarded screenwriter Ricky Lee, meanwhile, will give a scriptwriting workshop to members of the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE), who are mass communication professors and instructors from different universities and colleges nationwide.

A partnership between ABS-CBN and the PACE, the PMC has been exposing the next generation of Filipino communication professionals and media practitioners for a decade through a series of talks and activities with the current leaders in the media industry. This year, as the country is set to elect its new leaders, the speakers will be going back to the essence of the media as they discuss different topics under the theme “Media: Inspiring and Empowering a Nation.”

The speakers include ABS-CBN news head Ging Reyes, ABS-CBN news correspondent Doris Bigornia, ABS-CBN News program manager Marielle Catbagan, ABS-CBN Bayan Mo, Patrol Mo head Rowena Paraan, Integrated Acquisition and International Sales Distribution head Leng Raymundo, ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. vice president for Creative Olive Lamasan, Special Projects and Film Restoration head Leonardo Katigbak, and CinemaOne channel head Ronald Arguelles.

On the second day, ABS-CBN Integrated Sports head Dino Laurena, ANC’s “The Daily Serve” anchor Gretchen Ho, ABS-CBN Digital Media Division’s head of Digital Dennis Lim, Chicken Pork Adobo’s content creators and YouTube personalities Lloyd Cadena, Rod Marmol, Natalia Uy-Chan, and Dominic Dimagmaliw will share their knowledge and experience to the students. ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. chairpeson Gina Lopez, ABS-CBN Customer Business Development head Vivian Tin, and ABS-CBN Business Unit head Ginny Monteagudo-Ocampo round up the resource speakers.

Apart from the talks, delegates can also look forward to an interaction with the leaders of ABS-CBN, as the network’s president and CEO Carlo Katigbak and ABS-CBN COO Cory Vidanes joins Reyes in the Dialogue.

PACE president Marco Polo, who has been part of the PMC since its inception, expressed his excitement for the tenth edition of the PMC.
“As an educator, there is great satisfaction to be part of something that can empower and change the lives of our students, and affect how the Filipino family can help this country. I have seen many batches of PMC delegates come and graduate and I can say participating in this event really inspired them to work hard and prepared them for the industry they are aspiring to enter. We’re ready to inspire more students this year,” he said.

As PMC celebrates its tenth year, ABS-CBN Integrated Corporate Communication Division head Kane Errol Choa also said the students can expect that the Kapamilya Network and PACEF will strive to improve the topics and activities for the next editions of the congress.

“ABS-CBN has an unwavering commitment to serve the Filipino people and PMC is just one way we hope to directly make a positive impact on the nation. In the ten years of PMC, we have guided and inspired over 7,000 young Filipinos to become responsible and excellent communicators. We will continue in this endeavor while always making sure that delegates – both students and the teachers, get an enjoyable and productive learning experience in the PMC,” he said.

The Pinoy Media Congress has been awarded with an Award of Excellence by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines in the 2007 Philippine Quill Awards and by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines in the 2008 Anvil Awards.
