Heneral Luna’s lead star John Arcilla earned a Best Actor nod in the prestigious 10th Asian Film Awards (AFA). The historical epic was also nominated for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. Heneral Luna is the only Filipino film in contention for any category in this year’s AFA. The nominations were announced during the AFA Press Conference held in Hong Kong on February 3.
Heneral Luna was one of 2015’s biggest and most memorable movies. During its record-breaking nine-week theatrical run, the film earned rave reviews in the Philippines and abroad. This includes praises for Arcilla’s powerful and remarkable portrayal of the mercurial war hero Antonio Luna. The film was also chosen as the country’s official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.
To date, Heneral Luna is still setting records and exceeding expectations. The Heneral Luna DVD is now the best-selling DVD of any historical Filipino film. It is also the fastest-selling DVD of any Filipino title currently in the market, selling more than 7,000 copies in less than a month since its release. The film was also recently recognized at the 2016 Platinum Stallion Awards, receiving the Trinitian Awardee for Best Student-Oriented Film and Best Film Actor for John Arcilla.
Winners of the 10th Asian Film Awards will be announced during the grand presentation ceremony on March 17 in Macau.
