Just like Ken Chan, Kris Bernal is another Kapuso star who is getting the award-buzz this year. The former StarStruck Female Suvivor is portraying the role of Celestina “Tinay” Vallejo Batongbuhay, a young mother suffering from intellectual development disorder or IDD. For playing this challenging role alongside Superstar Nora Aunor, Kris earns rave reviews from the press people and gets good feedback from televiewers as well.
Playing Tinay in “Little Nanay” is perhaps Bernal’s most important TV role of her career. Tinay is a very complex character which requires a thorough study of how people with such condition speaks and reacts. And I think Bernal gives the role justice as her portrayal is very much believable. But don’t take my word for it.
Check out this scene in “Little Nanay” which aired last January 20. Tinay takes the witness stand and answers the questions of Atty. Castañeda (portrayed by Christopher de Leon) with such sincerity in the naive kind of way:
And here’s the scene when Tinay lost custody to her daughter Chiechie as the court favors the father, Archie San Pedro:
I must say, this is my favorite scene so far because the court battle is not just about Tinay and Archie but with the Batongbuhays and the San Pedros. It’s such a thought-provoking situation and will leave you asking if the court made the right decision.
Now that Chiechie is living with her father and the San Pedros, will Tinay be able to see her daughter again in the future?
Watch “Little Nanay” weeknights after “24 Oras” on GMA Network.
