Heneral Luna continues to break records as it sets a new sales landmark for its DVD release. According to home-video distributor Magnavision Inc., the highly acclaimed historical epic has now sold over 7,000 copies in less than a month, making it the best-selling DVD of any historical Filipino film ever released in the market. It is also the fastest-selling DVD of any Filipino title currently in release.

Fans of Jerrold Tarog’s critical and box office hit have clamored relentlessly for an official DVD. As a response to the public’s overwhelming support, the film’s producer, Artikulo Uno Productions, released the home-video format last December 18, 2015 just a few weeks after Heneral Luna ended its unprecedented nine-week theatrical run.

During its launch, the cast led by John Arcilla, Mon Confiado, Archie Alemania, Alex Medina, Junjun Quintana and Epy Quizon attended a series of meet-and-greet mall tours to personally thank the fans for their unwavering interest and support. Arcilla, who gained critical acclaim both in the Philippines and in America for his remarkable portrayal of Gen. Antonio Luna, reminded the public, particularly its young audience to always keep the spirit of the film alive.

“I hope that the story of [Antonio] Luna will go beyond the movie house, beyond the DVD. Our love for our country, which was awakened by the film should continue to live on and be part of our daily lives,” Arcilla shared. “Bayan bago sarili,” he added.

The Heneral Luna DVD features English subtitles, and bonus features like the music video for the official theme song “Hanggang Wala Nang Bukas” by Ebe Dancel, a 20-minute featurette on the Making of Heneral Luna, and “Ilustrado Problems” a special featurette with a comic take on our favorite Ilustrados from the cast of Heneral Luna.
