Angel Locsin Will No Longer Play ‘Darna’ in the Star Cinema Movie
ABS-CBN has released a statement announcing that Angel Locsin will no longer play “Darna” in the highly-anticipated Star Cinema movie.
Here is the full statement of ABS-CBN that was emailed to Starmometer Monday evening, October 26, 2015:
It is with deep regret that we announce that ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and Angel Locsin have mutually agreed that Angel will no longer do the “Darna” movie due to health reasons. Because of her passion, dedication, and commitment to the project, she underwent various rigorous training regimens for two years. Unfortunately, this led her to developing a disc bulge in her spine. This then limits her from doing strenuous activities such as stunts, liftings, and the usage of harness, all of which will be required of her for the action scenes in the film. Aside from that, she will need to undergo rehabilitation and treatment.
And so while we have envisioned her to do the iconic Filipino heroine, Angel’s health and safety are both our primary concern. Hence, the decision.
Fans need not worry. They can still look forward to seeing her in a movie that she is currently shooting with Vilma Santos. Angel’s physical condition does not prevent her from finishing the said project.
Again, we sincerely thank Angel for her hard work and pray for her recovery.

I do prefer Ms. Angel Locsin to play the role b’coz she had played it very well when she was in GMA as well as with Ms. Marian Rivera-Dantes. Aside from these two ladies, I cant imagine other artist could possibly play the role just like what they have done.
Oh yeah perfect si KC Concepcion, bagay sa kanya- hope ABS will pick her as Darna! – ang tanong nga lang may fans pa ba siya? Nadine Lustre, well kulang sa Acting din. Haynaku problema na yan ng Dos!!!!

Geesh people, she got injured. The movie needs to be made. ABS CBN is putting her safety into consideration, as well as their contractual obligation with everyone involved in the project. Nuff of this network war non-sense. Grow up.

Angel is too old to play Darna. I think it’s her camp who insisted that she will play the Darna movie and ABS-CBN agreed at the start. But at this stage, she is too old for the role. Liza Soberano is perfect for the role – young, fresh and beautiful.

That’s why, walang sense of loyalty! Gahaman kasi sa salapi kaya yan ang ending- binawi ang project tutal bobita naman ito, ampaw sa buhay puro lalaki Lang ang hanap. I’m sure one of these days iiwanan siya ni Luis- wala eh laspag na di pa man ikakasal. Sayang ang pagka-ngiwi ng belat na ito!
Because angel sent feelers to gma for a homecoming, but gma turned her down. I think abs got disappointed because of her lack of loyalty which i cant blame her because she’s not been given a lot of shows lately

Hindi naman kaya may gusto lng ipalit sa role ng DARNA, pinaasa nyo ang mga fans ni Ms. Angel ang tagal nyo syang tinenggang tpos bad news pa. . . di kaya may mainpluwensyang tao na nagpabago sa desisiyon ng ABS-CBN. ..wag na lang ituloy ang DARNA kung hini si Angel ang gaganap. Toto bang maysakit si Angel??

the statement given by Starcinema and ABS obviously left Angel with no choice
the doctor did say she can still recover
she has had injuries in the past but she was still able to do some action series
at only 30 we dont see how she should just be totally removed from the title role she only deserves
some other fans might have illusions their favorites could play the role esp those needing a break
but remember this role is tailor made for Angel
anybody we know they think can suit up for this part esp if its an upcoming young actress who still lacks acting chops and is questionable with action scenes will pale
if they think this will push her career it might just be the opposite
unless they’re willing to take that chance
still I advice the Ravelos to think this over well
because the iconic character might actually loose its “iconic” stature if she doesnt live up to expectations
honestly, this is still Angel’s
and it will be a mistake for ABS to even think of replacing her this quick
time table is no excuse
they might as well wait it out
Darna deserves to be played out right
its not only Angel fans very disappointed about this
but Darna fans as well
Angel is the best Darna out there, why settle for a poor version
just shelve the project for now
