During the post-pageant press conference for Miss USA 2015, winner Olivia Jordan from Oklahoma was asked the inevitable question from one of the press members:
“I know the pageant is over, unfortunately the Trump controversy is likely not any time soon. What were your thoughts about Donald Trump’s comments and moving forward, do you think he is still a good fit for this organization? [Trump has angered many people in America for making this comment during his announcement to run for the Republican presidential nomination: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”]
Olivia Jordan’s answer:
“I think that’s a great question. I think we have freedom of speech in this country, and that’s a beautiful right. And it helps draw attention to issues that are important and certainly immigration is an important issue in this country and I think we can all agree on that,” she said.
“This organization is not one person. It’s definitely not just me, it’s not just one leader, it’s a family that many are working together. This organization definitely celebrates diversity, and I think that was clear onstage tonight. And I look forward to being a part of this brand and part of working forward to spread the message of love and diversity and acceptance,” she added.
Olivia represented USA in Miss World 2013 pageant and competed against our very own Megan Young during that time.
