Tune Hotels Danga Bay in Johor: A Value Hotel Near the Malaysia- Singapore Border

When I received the invitation to join the Tune Hotels Blogger Fam Trip in Johor Bahru Malaysia I got super excited! I was in Nara Japan that time (March 25) with my blogger friend Morgan Zeanreh and the email that we both received almost kept us awake the whole night. We reminisced the first Tune Hotels Blogger Fam Trip which was held May last year when we were among the three bloggers from the Philippines to join other bloggers from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia for the said event. Last year’s familiarization tour was held in Kuala Lumpur and we spent our first night at Tune Hotels KLIA2, which was newly opened that time, and the succeeding nights at Tune Hotels Downtown Kuala Lumpur.

And so it happened, this year’s familiarization tour was held in Johor Bahru–a city in Southern Malaysia located north of Singapore–last May 13 to 16, 2015. The main purpose of this fam tour is of course, to experience what Johor Bahru has to offer by staying at Tune Hotels Danga Bay. The bloggers count is 10: 4 from the Philippines, 4 from Indonesia and 2 from Malaysia.

And just like last year, AirAsia sponsored our flights from Manila to Malaysia. But this time we have a ‘stop over,’ my very first time to experience such! Since there’s no direct flight from Manila to Johor, we took the early morning flight to Kuala Lumpur and after we arrived at KLIA2 (Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2) at around 10am, we ate lunch first then visited Tune Hotels KLIA and took some pictures, met the 4 bloggers from Indonesia and 2 bloggers from Malaysia, and then took the flight to Johor Bahru at around 2pm in the afternoon.

This has been my 11th and 12th time to ride AirAsia. The world’s best low-cost airline has been my official carrier before when I went to Shanghai China and Kuala Lumpur Malaysia last year and Seoul Korea last January. I must say, I didn’t encounter any problem in all 12 flights and my journeys from Manila to Johor last May 13 and from Singapore to Manila last May 17 were smooth and comfortable. Well, the excellent weather was a major factor, of course.

Now let me talk about Tune Hotels Danga Bay, our home in Malaysia for 4 days. We arrived at the hotel on May 13 in the afternoon around 4pm and this banner welcomed all 10 of us:

Aside from the banner, a dragon LEGO caught our attention. Well I guess this dragon serves as promotional standee for Legoland Malaysia which is less than an hour drive away from the hotel (I will talk about my Legoland Malaysia experience in a separate blog post).

The lobby has 5 desktop computers and a mini-store where you can buy Tune Hotels souvenir items.

After signing some papers, the receptionist handed our card keys–one for each blogger–meaning 1 room for each of us at the third floor!

I’m at room 331 on this side of the hotel:

Upon entering my room, I put the card key to the power panel to turn on the lights, air con, ceiling fan, and LCD TV.

Control

Are you an electric fan or an air con kind of traveller? Me, I prefer the ceiling fan (if there’s one) rather than an air con. But that’s just me.

There are some hangers above the movable table to conserve space:

There’s also a safety deposit box for your valuables. Unfortunately, this safe in my room doesn’t work so I put my valuables (like laptop, etc.) inside my luggage instead whenever I go out.

Another must-have: the LCD TV with cable channels like AXN, National Geographic and some local channels.

And check out the toilet, it’s squeaky clean because it’s being sanitized everyday! It has one important feature that other budget hotels don’t have: the high-pressure, heated power showers.

Toilet

…and a bidet spray beside the toilet bowl which is a plus factor!

Finally, here is my 5-star bed. The sheets and pillows are clean and odor free for additional comfort.

All in all, Tune Hotels Danga Bay will give you a high quality stay at an affordable price. If you’re touring Singapore and you would like to take a side trip to Legoland Malaysia, I suggest you spend the night at Tune Hotels Danga Bay. Cleanliness and comfort at a low price are the hotel’s strengths, kinda what I expected since I’ve been to three of their branches already: KLIA2, Downtown Kuala Lumpur and Asoke in Bangkok.
