Cinema One Originals ‘Mater Dolorosa’ Leads Digital Movie Purchases

After the phenomenal success of the Cinema One Originals “That Thing Called Tadhana” last month, another Cinema One Originals film, “Mater Dolorosa” has become the top Filipino movie released on iTunes since it became available in January 2014 as one of ABS-CBN’s offerings on the popular music and movie purchasing site.

“Mater Dolorosa,” a family drama film by Adolf Alix Jr., is the first Cinema One Originals title that became available on iTunes.

“I am proud that Cinema One is able to provide an alternative lineup of movies that suits the taste of our audience. ‘Mater Dolorosa’ is an edgy family drama that is well-received locally and has bagged major awards in various prestigious local award giving bodies. Its success does not surprise me because the film’s story is impeccable. It is what viewers enjoy,” said Cinema One channel head Ronald Arguelles.

“Mater Dolorosa” features a star-studded cast led by Gina Alajar, Alessandra de Rossi, Anita Linda, Phillip Salvador, Jason Abalos, Carlo Aquino, Felix Roco, Cogie Domingo, Rossanna Roces, Alwyn Uytinco, Mercedes Cabral, and Evelyn Vargas.

The Cinema One Originals film chronicles the story of a woman who takes over her husband’s crime empire while trying to keep her family intact. While she tries to manage the issues enveloping her family, a new mayor steps in, forcing her to change the way she runs her business and how she deals with ghosts from the past.

The Gina Alajar-helmed film also harvested major awards, such as the 2013 Gawad Urian Best Director for Adolf Alix, Jr., the 2013 Golden Screen Awards Best Actress award for Gina Alajar, and the 2013 Star Awards for Movies Best Supporting Actor for Carlo Aquino.

“Mater Dolorosa” is available on iTunes in the Philippines and the United States for $12.99 (HD version) and is priced at $3.99 for rent (HD version). It is also available for $9.99 (SD version) and is priced at $2.99 for rent (SD version).
