Success Story of Shoemaker Who Earns P50,000 a Day in ‘My Puhunan’

Broadcast journalist Karen Davila details the success story of an ordinary shoemaker who used his creativity to pioneer innovative footwear designs that became a hit in Laguna this Wednesday (Jan 8) in “My Puhunan.”

MyPuhunan

Badong Monteiro was 15 years old when he worked at a footwear factory and decided to put up his own business after his self-designed floral flipflops sold well.

Fifty years after, Badong’s now produces 2,000 pieces of slippers every month and brings in P50,000 a day on weekends, with its bakya and sandals with woodwork its signature products.

In “My Puhunan,” Badong teaches Victor Ancheta, a shoe repairman, how to make slippers so Victor can earn twice or thrice as how much he currently earns.

Diros Bigornia, meanwhile, gives a source of livelihood to two families that can barely make ends meet in “Mutya ng Masa” tomorrow (Jan 7).
