The festival spearheaded by PLDT-Smart Foundation, MediaQuest, Studio 5 and Unitel Entertainment opened its doors to interested filmmakers last August 2012 and attracted almost 150 entries from across the country. Due to the overwhelming response, the festival committee faced a grueling task of selecting the eight best entries. The chosen filmmakers received a seed grant of P1.5 million to support their project.

All eight films are still being screened in Newport Cinemas of Resorts World Manila, Lucky Chinatown Mall Cinemas, Gateway Cineplex and Shang Cineplex–the festival’s partner cinemas–until September 24.

Aside from trophies, the two Best Picture winners received P500,000 cash prize each.

  1. I assume that the CineFilipino Festival has less network war overtones than Cinemalaya.

wala akong mkitang post ng mga NORANIANS.
    Bakit kaya? IMAGINE….
    Best Actress:
Teri Malvar, Ang Huling Cha Cha ni Anita
    > In a stunning upset, a skinny 13-year-old newcomer was named Best Actress at the ongoing CineFilipino Film Festival instead of the heavily favored superstar Nora Aunor.
    > Best actress went to 13-year-old Teri Malvar who portrays a young lesbian in the throes of first love in “Anita.”
Malvar said she “prayed” hard for her film’s victory.
