ABS-CBN Strengthens Its Weekday Afternoon Current Affairs Block
From Mondays to Fridays, ABS-CBN provides news and information via “Bistado,” “Mutya ng Masa,” “My Puhunan,” “Tapatan ni Tunying,” at “Hiwaga” that will make viewers more vigilant, happier, well-informed, and aspire for greater things.
Julius Babao opens the week with “Bistado” on Mondays where he exposes stories of abuse, neglect, and cruelty. The program has featured notorious modus operandi and has helped authorities in the rescue of victims of rape, incest, and prostitution. It also reinforced its public service component via its “Sumbungang Bayan” that people can approach and encourages them to bring to light cases of wrongdoing and exploitation.
On Tuesdays, Doris Bigornia spreads positive vibes in her first ever TV program “Mutya ng Masa” where she bonds with ordinary Filipinos and features their interests, concerns, and simple joys. So far, Doris has gone to Baclaran, Sta. Mesa, and Kalaw and has provided instant relief to people’s plight by giving them things that they said would make them happy.
Karen Davila, meanwhile, helps struggling entrepreneurs improve their businesses by having them mentored by successful businessmen who started from rags to riches. The program is filled with stories of determination and success, as well as tips and inspiration that will help Filipinos and their families plan for a better life and brighter future.
In “Tapatan ni Tunying” on Thursdays, Anthony Taberna asks daring questions and demands direct answers from the most controversial and talked-about personalities in the country. The program has served an agenda-setting function by grilling priests with children and their views on celibacy, Venus Raj speaking up for the first time on her break-up with Andrei Felix, Karla Estrada revelation on her son Daniel Padilla’s relationship status, and Eva Carino on her acceptance of BB Gandanghari’s sexuality.
Atom Araullo, on the other hand, explores the truth behind supernatural phenomena on Fridays in “Hiwaga.” The program highlights the Filipino belief system and sets it against real-life stories of Filipinos. Atom has touched on various topics such as love potions, “usog,” doppelgangers, hypnotism, astral projection, premonitions, and spirits.
