‘Demandahan’ Tackles Dispute on Deceased Pensioner’s Benefits

Broadcast journalist Anthony Taberna tackles the dispute of a first wife and a second wife over their late husband’s Social Security System (SSS) benefits
this Thursday (June 13) on “Pinoy True Stories: Demandahan,”

“Sita” and “Roel” were happily married until the latter suddenly died of a heart attack after ten years of being together. Roel, an SSS retiree, is entitled to benefits, thus Sita filed a claim for death and funeral benefits after her husband’s demise. Upon presentation of their marriage certificate and Roel’s death certificate, Sita was granted initial payment by the SSS.

However, the situation became complicated when—to Sita’s shock—Roel’s first wife, “Myrna,” appeared to claim Roel’s benefits. Previously, Myrna was declared “presumptively dead” by the court because she was missing for 15 years before Roel and Sita got married.

Join Ka Tunying as he examines this case and talks to law experts about which wife are entitled to the late pensioner’s SSS benefits. Watch “Demandahan” tomorrow (June 13), 4:45 PM on ABS-CBN Kapamilya Gold.
