Willie Revillame Charged with Child Abuse
According to a report by Philippine Star, the noontime show host violated the Republic Act 7610, otherwise known as the “Anti-Child Abuse Law” for allegedly “exploiting the vulnerability of a minor” during a segment of the March 12, 2011 airing of his previous show. As shown on the video of the said episode, the boy named Jan Jan was made to dance like a macho dancer by Willie in exchange for P10,000.00. The boy was seen crying as he did what he was told.

Being pursued by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Council for the Welfare of Children, the case was raffled off last May 27 to QC Regional Trial Court, under Judge Roberto Buenaventura.
The court found probable cause to charge Revillame with violating the Anti-Child Abuse Act. Prosecutor Benjamin Samson said the host “unwittingly exposed (the boy) to mockery and humiliation” and that he “should have been prudent” in dealing with a minor.

Revillame, on the other hand, asserted that the incident was for entertainment purpose only and that there was nothing malicious in the boy’s dance performance which he calls the “body wave.” He reiterated that Jan Jan’s parents have no complain whatsoever with what happened.
