‘Kampanyaserye’ Features Zamboanga Kingpin

Broadcast journalist Abner Mercado probes the power and influence in politics of Romeo “Nonong” Jalosjos, tagged as the Kingpin of Zamboanga, and his family over the whole Zamboanga peninsula this week in ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs’ “KampanyaSerye.”

Kampanyaserye

Romeo opened the doors to politics for his whole clan when he was elected as congressman of the first district of Zamboanga Del Sur in 1995. Since then the family became very influential in the land. Even when Romeo was convicted for statutory rape in 1997, Zamboangenos continue to support him as he was re-elected as congressman. This elections, members of the clan ran for mayoral, gubernational, and congressional seats that covered Zamboanga Del Norte, Zamboanga Del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay. This is why political rivals of the Jalosjos’ are accusing them of starting a dynasty. They are also being accused of using violence just to stay in power. What do the Jalosjos’ have to say about these allegations? “KampanyaSerye,” a teleserye-like documentary that tackles and probes the stories behind campaign promises and rhetorics to bring out the issues that matter to the electorate and show the competencies of aspiring leaders. It is part of ABS-CBN’s Halalan 2013 coverage that was launched one year before the May national elections and aims to educate voters who are set to elect a new batch of leaders.
