‘Demandahan’ Helps a Nurse Sue an Illegal Recruiter

Broadcast journalist Anthony Taberna finds legal help for a nurse who was duped by an illegal recruiter in “Pinoy True Stories: Demandahan” tomorrow (April 4).

“Jomalyn” had been working in Saudi Arabia for three years when a friend convinced her to work in Canada. She was guaranteed employment as long as she would complete all fees amounting to 6,500 Canadian dollars.

Despite the steep processing payments, Jomalyn’s mother found a way to loan the amount. But two years after their unscrupulous transaction, Jomalyn has yet to hear any news from her friend and the agency.

Join Anthony Taberna as he accompanies Jomalyn to Atty. Freidrick Lu to seek advice as to how she can legally pursue the swindler. In this episode, the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act Of 1995 will be explained in full detail.

How does the law protect aspiring and current overseas Filipino workers from being abused by scammers and illegal recruiters? Can Jomalyn still file charges when her so-called friend is not residing in the Philippines?
Watch “Demandahan” tomorrow (April 4), 4:15 PM on ABS-CBN Kapamilya Gold. For updates, follow @PinoyTruStories on Twitter.
