Garcia’s win in the region’s prestigious filmfest may add momentum to the Philippines’ Oscar bid for “Bwakaw” although the Jun Lana-film dropped to no. 8 of Top Tier Contenders for Best Foreign Language Film category of the Oscar prediction site Awards Circuit.

Nora Aunor, who was nominated for her performance in the Brillante Mendoza movie “Thy Womb” lost the Best Actress award to Gwei Lun of Taiwan for the movie “Gf*Bf.”

Meanwhile, the best movie went to Hong Kong’s Oscar entry “Life Without Principle” while the best director was awarded to Hirokazu Kore-eda of Japan for the film “I Wish.”

Aside from winning the Audience Award, Best Actor and NETPAC from this year’s Cinemalaya, “Bwakaw” also won the Asian Film Award Special Mention at the 2012 Tokyo International Film Festival.
