One Minute Movie Review: Wreck-It Ralph

"Wreck-It Ralph" is a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping animated adventure with a big heart.

WRECK-IT RALPH

Main Cast: John C. Reilly
Supporting Cast: Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, Sarah Silverman
Director: Rich Moore
Genre: Animation, Comedy, Family
Released by: Columbia Pictures
MTRCB Rating: GP

Movie Info: Ralph (John C. Reilly) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero. On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (Jane Lynch) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late? –Disney

The Positive: Nostalgic characters, dazzling visuals, striking musical score and a solid story about a misunderstood outcast make Disney’s 52nd animated feature the biggest and most colorful yet. When it comes to innovation and smart storytelling, Disney always deliver.

The special added attraction, “Paperman,” is so adorable the movie ticket is so much worth it.

I must say, “Wreck-It Ralph” is definitely Disney’s best in-house outing this year that will rival Pixar’s “Brave” for Best Animated Feature category of 2013 Oscars.

The Negative: Although it’s being described as “Toy Story with video games,” it focuses on different elements of the movie.

Memorable Lines:

Wreck-It Ralph: I ought to beat the filling out of you!
King Candy: [Pulls out fake glasses and puts them on] Aha! You wouldn’t hit a guy with glasses would you?
Wreck-It Ralph: [Grabs the glasses, shatters them on Candy’s head]
King Candy: Ow. You hit a guy WITH glasses. That’s…well played.
