‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ is Now Looking for Non-Singing Acts

Jovit Baldivino, Marcelito Pomoy, Maasinhon Trio. They're all singers and they've all won Pilipinas Got Talent.

Pilipinas Got Talent season 4 is underway and this time, the producers are hoping a non-singing act will win for the first time.

PGT judge Kris Aquino mentioned in season 3 that the show’s title is not “Pilipinas Got Singing Talent,” however, televiewers are still casting their votes on the singing contestants. In fact, singing group Maasinhon Trio bagged the title and young rocker Khalil Ramos was runner-up.

In an interview by ABS-CBN News, PGT hosts Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford expressed their opinion regarding the idea that a non-singing act should win in season 4 for a change.

“Napakagaling ng mga Pinoy sa pagkanta, hindi na pwede kwestyunin iyan ng buong mundo. Pero oras na para bigyan ang tsansa ng iba. We want PGT to be different. We’re very happy na ‘yung singers at this point, ay mayroong sariling show, ‘yung ‘X-Factor,’ so sana, we want this to be really different. We want variety, we want talent,” Manzano said.

“We want talent. Kahit anong gusto mong gawin ay open ang ‘PGT.’ Dahil ipagmamalaki natin na hindi lang sa kantahan, sa sayawan, sa aktingan ang kaya natin. Meron naman talagang kakaibang talento ang Pinoy,” Crawford said.

Although the producers cannot prohibit singing contestants from joining the show as “singing” is still very much considered a talent, the judges–Kris Aquino, Ai Ai delas Alas and Freddie Garcia–may have the power to “filter” the auditions.
