Miss World remains the only grand slam pageant elusive to the Philippines as no pinay had won the beautiful blue crown yet. However in 1974, Evangeline Pascual almost became the first Pinay Miss World by winning 1st runner-up. The feat was duplicated by Gwendolyn Ruais last year when she also placed second to the winner. Will Queenierich finally bring home the crown this year and become the first Filipina Miss World in the 62 years of the pageant?
Well wishers and the 4 runners up of Miss World Philippines 2012 showed their support to Queenierich during her send-off party which was held on Friday night, July 13, at the function room of BSA Towers in Ortigas.
Miss World Philippines director Cory Quirino shared a very important message to the newly-crowned beauty queen.
“My best advice to Queenie is simply speak from her heart because a lot of candidates memorize canned messages, the answers and the judges don’t want that specially Julia Morley [the Miss World director],” she said.
Quirino also pointed out how Gwendolyn almost won the title last year and how she climbed the leaderboard and became a shoo-in for the crown during the coronation night held in London.
“Last year when Gwendolyn was on stage, she was being judged by past Miss World winners. So their standards were very high. I think what made Gwen moved up from third runner up to first runner up and almost got the crown was the question and answer portion. So there’s only one question that Miss World asks and that is ‘Why should you be Miss World?’ All this time from now, I want you to think about that and let it sink into your heart why you should be Miss World? The candidate who answers as sincerely and as honestly and as authentic as possible, she’s the one who’s going to win the crown and I have every bit of confidence in you that the heart is there and the words will come out straight from your heart. And with that, the Miss World crown on your head.”
Miss World gives points to the contestants via the pre-pageant activities like Beach Beauty (swimsuit competition), Modeling, Sports, and Beauty with a Purpose. The 7 candidates with the highest scores from these events will be the finalists. The winner will then be determined via the question and answer portion or how the finalists will answer the question “Why should you be Miss World?”
Queenierich has an edge on these fast-track events. She’s a fashion model, she won best in swimsuit in Bb. Pilipinas and Miss World Philippines, she’s an MVP basketball player, her unique talent in beatboxing is stunning, and she also visited the National Children’s Hospital in preparation for the beauty with a purpose campaign.
Needless to say, world-renowned Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco has provided a fabulous evening gown to Queenierich, something that will make her stand out from the crowd.
Furthermore, the whole country is behind her. Her fans and supporters can get in touch with her via her official Miss World page.
So do you think the 23-year-old Queenierich has a shot for that prestigious and elusive crown? I definitely think so.
The Miss World Pageant is happening on August 18, 2012 and will be broadcast live from Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China on TV5.
