Typhoon Butchoy has maintained its strength at 11:00 a.m. today, June 18 (Monday), as it continues to move northward at 22 kph, according to the latest report of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA.

Tropical Storm “Butchoy” is estimated based on satellite and surface data at 460 km East of Basco, Batanes (20.2°N, 126.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph.

As of this time, no public storm warning signals raised.

Typhoon “Butchoy” is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Luzon especially over its western section, and over Western Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 15 – 25 mm per hour (heavy) within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas due to the big waves generated by the combined effects of Typhoon “Butchoy” and the Southwest Monsoon.
