TV5 Hailed as Rotary Club’s TV Station of the Year, Clinches Gold and Bronze at the Tambuli Awards

TV5’s winning streak continues as the country’s fastest-growing network bagged major awards from two separate award-giving bodies last Thursday, June 14.

The Rotary Club of Manila honored TV5 with the Television Station of the Year award in this year’s Journalism Awards, while the University of Asia and the Pacific’s (UA&P) School of Communication recognized the two of the network’s campaign at the Tambuli Awards.

“Beyond the recognition we receive, these awards confirm that TV5 is on the right track. As the media business involves public trust, we are committed to serve the interests of Filipinos even better now more than ever,” according to Atty. Ray C. Espinosa, TV5 president and CEO.

Since 1966, RCM Journalism Awards has acknowledged significant contributions in tri-media. The award-giving body recognized “NEWS5’s thrust of delivering truthful, balanced and responsible journalism, which was quickly and aggressively executed through the use of leading edge technology in news reporting.” In his acceptance speech, TV5 executive vice president and COO Roberto V. Barreiro stressed that NEWS5 is progressively tapping all possible platforms to deliver news relevant to the public. “We are not a television network alone – in fact, we are a content creator. We will push the content to any medium, to any device anytime, anywhere,” said Mr. Barreiro.

Just two years after its launch, NEWS5 was able to reach greater heights by leveraging state-of-the-art technology. This was made possible by the network’s cross-platform perspective which spans free-to-air TV (TV5), UHF-TV (Aksyon TV), radio (Radyo Singko 92.3 News FM), online (Interaksyon.com) and mobile (Traffic Navigator, InterAksyon and Weather apps).

On the other hand, the Tambuli Awards recognized two of TV5’s campaigns, “PBA Kampihan Na” and “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon”. The former, the brand campaign of TV5’s sports channel AKTV, won gold for Best Insights and Strategic Thinking Campaign. On the other hand, TV5 News and Information’s ongoing campaign, “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon,” bagged bronze for Best Media-initiated Campaign.

Executed by Publicis Manila, AKTV’s “PBA Kampihan Na” was deemed an effective tool to establish the basketball association’s loyalties by creating rivalries that make the sport even more exciting. Following the campaign’s launch, PBA games posted an increase in live attendance, while AKTV recorded surge in ratings in the same period.

Meanwhile, NEWS5’s “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon”, established “Aksyon” as a strong brand and successfully transcended multiplatform messaging. This resonated in the organization’s overall public acceptance, evidenced by viewers’ reception of its flagship news program “Aksyon” and other communication channels that carried the brand.

Now on its sixth year, the Tambuli Awards is the first and only award-giving body of its kind that recognizes the year’s best integrated marketing campaigns that value both business results and socially-relevant marketing communications.

  1.  Nonsense, ABS-CBN should take caution since TV5 has more balanced programs except for the show of Willie, and could easily surpass it in 3 years from today if the management of ABS-CBN do not divert their focus on teleseryes. I’m a kapamilya but i often switched to their Aksyon TV for some of their news-related programs. Even their sports channel, if they can get the NCAA and UAAP, can easily be the sports channel of the entire nation.

  2. Kalokohan. ABS CBN dapat. Walang tatalo sa Kapamilya. Baduy kaya ng channel na to.
