Pacquiao vs. Bradley Outcome Sends Shockwaves to the World of Sports After Bradley was Announced the Winner

Pacquiao vs. Bradley fight result is now being considered by international sports writers as a black eye for boxing.

Today’s Pacquiao vs Bradley WBO welterweight championship fight drew flak from various sports journalists, prompting them to point a finger to the Nevada State Boxing Commission as a corrupt organization.

Via a controversial split decision, Bradley won the WBO welterweight crown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila).

The judges scored the bout as follows:

Jerry Roth – 115-113 in favor of Pacquiao
CJ Ross – 115-113 in favor of Bradley
Duane Ford – 115-113 in favor of Bradley

Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley improved his record to 29-0 with 12 knockouts, while Manny Pacquiao suffered to 54-4-2 with 38 knockouts.

Fight promoter Bob Arum already expressed his disgust with the judges’ scores during the post-fight news conference.

“I’ve never been as ashamed to be associated with the sport of boxing as I am tonight. This is a fight that respected people scored 11-1, 10-2 to Pacquiao. They said that Bradley was trying hard but that this was a mis-match,” he said.

Other international online news network shared the same sentiment. Here’s what they had to say about the controversial decision:

The Bleacher Report:

I mean, how else could the commission pick Bradley? There is no way every expert on the face of the boxing planet could be wrong.

Boxing’s powers-that-be will not punish themselves for this unforgivable error in judgment, but that doesn’t mean they should escape unscathed.

Tonight’s decision doesn’t just seem like an error. It stinks of controversy.

SB Nation:

I have watched a lot of boxing in my life and have seen more than my fair share of robberies. When Paul Williams was given a gift decision over Erislandy Lara, it felt wrong but predictable. When Tavoris Cloud got an undeserved win over Gabriel Campillo, it was the same. Even Brandon Rios over Richard Abril (to complete the hat trick of fairly recent robberies I can remember in my post-fight haze) made sense.

But Timothy Bradley getting the nod over Manny Pacquiao in a fight that Pacquiao appeared to very clearly win makes no sense in the typical line of boxing thinking.

Yahoo! Sports:

While watching the fight live, I unofficially scored the fight 117-111 in favor of Manny Pacquiao. I thought he clearly deserved to win, and given his stature in the sport, didn’t think the scorecards possibly could have come up differently.

The Tim Bradley’s of the world don’t get their hand raised in robberies. My mind is blown.

As Bradley takes home the WBO welterweight belt after beating one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world, he can now call for a rematch with Pacquiao. It’s interesting to note that the American boxer already predicted and promoted the “rematch” before this first fight even took place.

Pacquiao vs. Bradley II is most likely to happen this November.
