American Idol Shocker: Jessica Sanchez Voted Off

Possibly the best singer in American Idol history--Jessica Sanchez--was chosen by America to go home Thursday night (Friday morning in Manila) in an unbelievable development.

Before the results show even started, producer Nigel Lythgoe and host Ryan Seacrest posted cryptic messages on Twitter insinuating that a favorite contestant to win the show will be voted off.

TMZ also reported earlier:

There will be a stunning turn of events on “American Idol” tonight, because TMZ has learned one of the absolute favorites to win the competition will be eliminated.

Sources connected with the show tell TMZ … producers are scrambling to persuade the judges to use their “save” on the contestant.

We’re told producers actually thought 2 of the 3 contestants in the bottom tonight were strong candidates to win the entire competition.

Here are the results:

Ryan Seacrest sorted the contestants into 2 groups:

GROUP A (right side of the stage)

Hollie Cavanagh
Phillip Phillips
Colton Dixon

GROUP B (left side of the stage)

Elise Testone
Joshua Ledet
Jessica Sanchez

He then asked Skylar Laine to choose which group she belongs in but she declined. Ryan, put her in Group A which is the safe group, which means the bottom three are Elise, Joshua and Jessica.

Ryan announced that Elise and Joshua are safe leaving Jessica Sanchez to sing for her life. The shocking elimination came true!

The Fil-Am singer was just singing the first few lines of “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” when Jennifer Lopez rushes to the stage to stop her.

“Give me that mic!” Jlo said while taking the microphone from Jessica. “This is crazy! Yes, we’re using the save.” she screams.

Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler joined them on stage.

Randy says, “We are saving Jessica without any doubt…this girl is one of the best singers in America! Ever! Are you kidding me! Please everybody, please vote for the best! It’s about finding the best! C’mon.”

The judges learned from last year. There’s no Pia-Toscano-incident this year, thank goodness.

Watch the rare “TV moment” here:

Do you think Jessica Sanchez really got the lowest number of votes?

Don’t you think what happened earlier was scripted to pump the show’s ratings?
