Eugene Domingo got a Best Actress nomination from the 6th Asian Film Awards, otherwise known as the Asian “Oscars,” for her performance in the 7th Cinemalaya-winning movie “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank.”
Domingo will vie against Vidya Balan of India, Michelle Chen of Taiwan, Leila Hatami of Iran, and Deanie Ip for the coveted Best Actress trophy.
Two other pinoys bagged a nomination from the region’s prestigious movie award giving body: Chris Martinez for Best Screenplay (also for the movie “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank”) and Sharmaine Buencamino for Best Supporting Actress for the indie film “Niño.”
Meanwhile, “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” failed to make it to the shortlist of 2012 Oscars’ Best Foreign Language Film category.
The nine films chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in the Best Foreign Language category shortlist and still have the chance to win the coveted Oscar trophy are Bullhead (Belgium), Monsieur Lazhar (Canada), SuperClasico (Denmark), Pina (Germany), A Separation (Iran), Footnote (Israel), Omar Killed Me (Morocco), In Darkness (Poland), Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale (Taiwan).
The 5 finalists for the said category will be revealed alongside with the other 2012 Oscar nominees on January 24.
