Philippine Azkals Draw with Hong Kong in Long Teng Cup Opener, 3-3

The opening game between Philippine Azkals vs defending champion Hong Kong ended in a thrilling draw, 3-3, on September 30, 2011 at the Kaoshiung Stadium in Taiwan.

Hong Kung led the game with two goals during the first 22 minutes courtesy of Lee Wai Lim and Cheng Lai Hin. But before halftime, the Philippine Azkals had 2 equalizers courtesy of Phil Younghusband off a penalty kick and another from Chieffy Caligdong. The latter made another goal in the second half, which sent the Philippine team ahead, 3-2.

It was almost a sweet first victory for the Philippine Azkals until Hong Kong’s Au Yeung Yiu scored and the game ended in a draw.

Philippine Azkals will face Chinese Taipei this Sunday, October 2, at 7:00 pm. Then they will play against Macau on Tuesday, October 4, at 4:30 pm.
