‘Patrol ng Pilipino’ Probes Oversupply of Pinoy Nurses

The country is experiencing a surplus of nurses with around 200,000 registered nurses currently unemployed, with some of them even offering free services or even paying to undergo so-called training.

The glut in nurses came as a result of a strong demand for nurses and the proliferation of nursing schools around the country in the past ten years. Filipinos were attracted by the prospects of a better and more comfortable living, which to many, could only be achieved by working overseas.

In “Patrol ng Pilipino” tomorrow (Sep 20), Jasmin Romero reports on the high-risk working conditions that volunteer nurses face while working without benefits or hazard pay. Earlier this year, the plight of volunteer Filipino nurses has been discussed in the Senate. But up to now, nothing concrete has been made to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, Jeff Canoy travels to Japan for the Tokyo Game Show 2011, where many international video game developers show off their upcoming games and soon-to-be newest craze in game-related hardware. Watch these stories tomorrow (September 20) in “Patrol ng Pilipino,” Tuesday night after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN or earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable channel 26) at 9:15 pm.
