Alaska Volcano Now on Advisory Status

The Alaska Volcano Observatory has lowered the alert level for a remote Aleutian Islands volcano in Alaska from “watch” to “advisory.”

Based from a sattelite data by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the growth of the Cleveland Volcano lava dome has stopped.

John Power, the USGS scientist in charge, says the eruption appears to have been mostly gushing than explosive and confined to the summit crater.

More than 8 hours ago, the Alaska Volcano lava dome appeared to have peaked at 262 feet. The alert level given by the Alaska Volcano Observatory was “Watch” which means people should be on a lookout for possible explosion.

The Alaska volcano’s most recent significant eruption was in February 2001 which produced three explosive events that emitted ash clouds as high as 39,000 feet.
