Winehouse Tribute to be featured in MTV Video Music Awards

A Winehouse Tribute will be featured on the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 28.

It’s a special segment of the event dedicated to the gone-too-soon singer Amy Winehouse, who passed away tragically last month at the age of 27.

Tony Bennett, whose duet with Winehouse that appears on his upcoming “Duets II” album and is the last recording she made before her death, will introduce the tribute. According to a statement by MTV, the tribute will feature some clips from Bennett’s and Winehouse’s recording session in London.

“It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse and when you listen to the recording of ‘Body and Soul,’ it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known,” says Bennett.

The Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse collaboration is titled “Body and Soul” and it will be released on Winehouse’s 28th birthday on September 14. Proceeds from the single and its corresponding music video will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which was established by Amy’s family after her death.

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will air 9:00 p.m. this Sunday on MTV.
