NASCAR Prayer of Pastor Joe Nelms Leads to Controversy and Entertainment

NASCAR Prayer

Pastor Joe Nelms of Family Baptist Church of Lebanon, Tennessee offered a controversial invocation during Saturday’s Nationwide Federated Auto Parts 300 NASCAR race in Nashville, Tennessee.

The prayer started as one might expect any Pastor to begin a benediction, “Heavenly Father we thank you tonight for all your blessings…” but then the prayer took a sudden turn to the weird side, giving props to the sponsors, manufacturers, the track, the drivers, and Darrell Waltrip.

“We want to thank you this night for these mighty machines that you’ve brought before us. Thank you for the Dodges and the Toyotas and thank you for the Fords,” he continued.

But the finale cracked a smile on everyone’s face:

“Lord I want to thank you for my smokin’ hot wife tonight, Lisa, my two children, Eli and Emma, or as we like to call them the Little E’s.”
