Ja Rule Sent to Jail for 2 Years for Failing to File Income Tax Returns

Rapper Ja Rule was sentenced to jail for more than 2 years for failing to file income tax returns.

The 35 year-old hip-hop singer and actor, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, owes the government around $1.1 million of income taxes from 2004 to 2008.

“I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal. I was a young man who made a lot of money,” he told CBS New York. “I didn’t know how to deal with these finances, and I didn’t have people to guide me, so I made mistakes.”

Ja Rule is already serving a 2 year jail sentence since last month after he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon last year.
