‘Cash Cab’ Accident Kills a Pedestrian in Canada

A “Cash Cab” taxi accidentally killed a pedestrian in Vancouver when a technical staff member was driving the replica cab back to the lot.

“Cash Cab,” by the way, is a TV game show that originated in the United Kingdom and has been licensed to television networks in numerous other countries. Passengers in a specially outfitted taxi are surprised and offered the chance to win money by correctly answering a series of general knowledge or trivia questions on the way to their destination.

According to the police, the staff member driving the Canadian “Cash Cab” crashed into a 61-year-old man crossing the street Friday night. The man died in the hospital soon after the accident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and his family,” said Andrew Burnstein, president of Castlewood Productions Inc., the production company behind the Canadian version of “Cash Cab.”

“My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team,” he said.

The family of the victim did not file charges and requested that his name not be released.
