‘The Love of Siam’ Starring Mario Maurer to be Tagalized Soon?

Mario Maurer became a household name in the Philippines after his Thai film "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" garnered a very high rating last Sunday morning.

The tagalized version of the hit Thai romantic comedy (CLICK HERE FOR RELATED ARTICLE) was shown last Sunday morning as a presentation of Kapamilya Sunday Blockbuster on ABS-CBN. It garnered a national TV rating of 18%, higher than ASAP Rocks, The Buzz and Good Vibes which is rare for a program being shown at that early time.

Furthermore, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” (known in other countries as “First Love”) and its lead star “Mario Maurer” became a trending search keyword on Yahoo and “Mario Maurer” became a trending topic on Twitter.

After the airing of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, Filipino fans of the Thai heartthrob posted their appreciation on Twitter. Mario Maurer, on the other hand, replied and thanked his Filipino fans and he even twitted the following photo with a message “For my Filipino Fans”:

Mario Maurer

That’s Mario Maurer wearing an “Adobo” t-shirt. Adobo, as we all know, is the most popular Filipino food.

And since Pinoy netizens are abuzz about this Thai heartthrob, there are now clamors that the movie who catapulted Maurer to fame be tagalized and shown on Philippine television. The film I am talking about is “The Love of Siam.”

Did you know that Mario Maurer won Best Actor for this movie in the Southeast Asian film category at the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival? His performance was described as “Mature acting choices within a wide range of situations. Beneath a calm and placid external demeanor his performance he displayed a rich inner struggle dealing with emotional burdens, with family, friends, his social circle and his romantic and sexual awakening.”

The sensational Thai movie is written and directed by Chookiat Sakveerakul. It is being described as a multi-layered family drama with a groundbreaking element in the story which is is a gay romance between two teenage boys.

Sounds intriguing right? Do you think it has a shot of being tagalized and shown on Philippine television despite the fact that it has a kissing scene between two teenage boys (Maurer and the other lead star)?

Let’s wait and see.

    Da best to!!

  2. inggit lang mga kapalmilyucks diyan taas ng ratings ng amaya

lagot kayo nagbabalik na ang real primetime queen

    i love pchy…………..

  3. Call it a gay movie- Then this is the best so far.

  4. Some people’s judgment about the movie Love of Siam seems to reflect the kind of mentality most Filipinos have. I even doubted if these people can draw the line between GAY MOVIE and GAY THEMED MOVIE, a gay movie is one that capitalizes on man to man sexual acrobats if you know what I mean; hence showing men’s naked body or men having sex with other men. A gay themed movie is a movie that exposes certain feelings and behaviors of characters such as man falling in love with another man that lead to conflict and confusion and yet they are very vital to the story . In the case of TLOS, the love between Tong and Mew and their kissing scene are nothing but a substantial element to heighten emotionality and to push forward the very message of societal depiction of reality that indeed a boy can fall in love with another boy. That scene could not be omitted because it intends to teach us valuable lesson (it was blurted out by Aunt Sunee in her scene with Mew after the kissing scene). It saddens me to realize that many could not understand why that scene had to be included. The worst inference the people have done is looking at the scene as obscene at Kabaklaan lang. SAYANG YOU ARE LIKELY TO MISS THIS VERY REALISTIC AND RELEVANT MOVIE. Give it a chance folks.

And as to the blogger who calls Pchy as THE OTHER LEAD STAR, magresearch po kayo, that’s what a journalist is supposed to be doing.

  5. super cute

  6. Calling TLOS as a gay movie did not shock me at all because that is expected from people who do not use their minds, but what shocked me is the way the writer call Pchy as THE OTHER LEAD STAR. It shocked for the simple reason that Pchy is no ordinary star, he is a tried and thespian in the field of entertainment (either music or movies) and infact, if I may recall, he is even called the no. 1 star in China. He is not THE OTHER LEAD STAR Mr. Blogger , but he is PCHY OR WITWISIT HIRANYAWONGKUL, attached to this name is fame, popularity and the millions of fans who love him dearly.

  7. I LUV PCHY SOBRA HAHAHA KINIKILIG AKO SA KANILANG DALAWA! I LUV TONG AND MEW HAHAHA

  8. LordKervin // June 10, 2011 at 9:16 pm //

the awkwardness of this movie works for me. HA HA =.)

  9. This movie was far better than CLTCL in my opinion. Ofcourse, if it were not for CLTCL I would not have known this movie either. Now that the Philippines have watched CLTCL there’s no doubt they’ll soon clamor for TLoS. It is such a great movie that will continue to linger in your mind. Even though it’s a lengthy movie I keep on watching it over and over again and up to now I’m still baffled and intrigued by all the complexities this movie presents. It is thought-provoking and truly a masterpiece. Eventhough I’m a bit hesitant to share it with my countrymen because of the great risk that alot of people would label it as “just another gay movie” making me a “gay-movie lover”, I know that there would still come out a better consequence – More Pchy (the other lead star) fans in the PH that could possibly lead to finally meeting him in person! As a final note, I’m supportive of this risky business of tagalizing TLoS. I know whatever happens, Witwisit’s (Pchy’s) acting prowess will shine through. And by the way, Mario and Pchy are not gay.

  10. I have watched this movie too several times. Pchy is very cute. i like him

  11. anonymous2 // June 8, 2011 at 10:25 pm //

yeah.. only idiots will classify this movie as a gay movie. duh. and also. pwde naman cgurong i-air ito sa tv. sunday’s best. hehe.. looking forward for the tagalized version!

    i love this movie;;;
    i saw this one,
i just can’t help it but cried a lot
mario is very handsome and he’s a good actor

i saw crazy thing called love…
    it was funny and cute…

This movie is more on friendship rather than homosexuality…it is so stupid to conclude without watching the whole film…watch it first…I find Witwisit Witwisit Hiranyawongkul very good in portraying the role…he is equally talented as an actor with Mario Maurer…but for me Witwisit’s role is more challenging! 5 star for this movie…

  14. maybe they just don’t know how to appreciate what a great movie is!!
because they are used to those stupid and nonsense movie!!!
i don’t want to say something very violent here!!just want to say that if you think this movie is worthless you do you!!!
you don’t know how to distinguish good from trash!!

  15. I pity those people who cannot distinguish art from obscenity. The kissing scene between two boys here is artistically executed and very vital to the development of the story. I think those who commented that it is a gay movie, probably, they have not watched the entire movie that’s why they are just zeroing in on the kissing scene and perhaps after watching that scene they jumped to conclusion right away that it is a gay movie. You are wrong, ni wala nga sa kalingkingan ng mga indie film na ginawa ni Coco Martin where he exposed his private parts . What’s in a kissing scene ba? Tama si Sir Red, brainless idiots nga kayo !!!

  16. I admire The Love of Siam in all aspects. It’s not superficial, and it teaches a lot of values. What makes it more valuable is that it depicts reality in a good way. We have to be open-minded to enjoy this movie entirely. And definitely, it’ll stick to your mind for days, kasi nakaka-touch talaga sya.

I am disappointed with people who call this a “gay movie”. As mentioned by others over and over again, the relationship between the two lead actors is just part and parcel of the plot of the movie. Try watching a real gay indie movie from the Philippines, and the love of siam. Compare and contrast them, ibang iba talaga ang focus and presentation.

  18. I agree with you Sir Red kailangan siguro nilang mag aral ng mabuti to understand the movie very well. For me, this is a brilliant movie.

This is unbelievable ! I can’t believe that such a beautiful movie is regarded as
kabaklaan by these brainless idiots. This is my little way of knocking some sense on your heads so you’ll realize why everyone has to watch this riveting, compelling and endearing movie called THE LOVE OF SIAM.
First: Watch the entire movie and understand every character as it begins to unfold.
Second: Feel the struggle that each character has to go through especially that of Mew and Tong.
Third: Look around you and see if the situation that Mew and Tong have to go through is the same situation that is gone through by your friends, your neighbors, your classmates, members of your family or maybe yourself .
Fourth: If it is happening to them or to you then the movie depicts reality. It reflects real people.
Fifth: With your eyes wide open, identify scenes that you think are malicious and nasty and determine if these scenes are vital and essential in the story.
Sixth: Listen to the conversation or to the dialogue of the main characters and see if there is anything obscene, vulgar, foul or immoral. If there is none, then don’t judge it as kabaklaan.
Seventh: Learn to be analytical for you to understand the very substance of the movie. But sadly, ONLY INTELLECTUALS CAN DO THIS. Do not be hypocrite, it’s time to face the truth. It is happening to any of us.

  21. @ bhet no. 48

tama ka sa sinehan n lang dapat to ipalabas kung itatagalized..baka makaapekto to sa mga batang lalaki na maapektuhan. =)

  22. hindi maganda ang story.... puro kabaklaan // June 8, 2011 at 12:07 pm //

  23. 3 years ago, my friends and I were hoping that love of siam will also be aired abs-cbn…now, it’s somehow possible.hahaha best couple ever, tong and mew

  24. wrong grammar na tuloy ako dahil sa inis!
ano ba naman kasi problema nyo sa movie it is a great movie a masterpiece that can move a person while other movie is a piece of trash LOVE OF SIAM is an art that shows us the meaning of love and teaches us many things!!!so what if it have a gay theme!!
a very inspiring movie and is worth watching!!

  25. Honestly? I’m hurt upon reading this blog for calling my idol as The Other Star. Pchy is famous and he was also awarded as Best Actor for this movie. I hope that the blogger will research about Pchy or may be he just wants to promote Mario Maurer here. Okay lang pero sana mention nyo lang po name ni Pchy. Thank you po.

  26. kkkoo and so what…
what do you always focus the part of it being a gay romance…while the whole movie don’t just settle for that it also tackles a whole lot of aspect just like family and frienship!!the hell with it being a gay movie it just show that in love gender doesn’t matter!!!

  27. PCHY shared stellar billing with Mario in The Love of Siam that’s why it is unfair to call him as just THE OTHER LEAD STAR. I, as a fan felt so insulted because I’ve been rooting for Pchy since then. In the Philippines, Pchy has plenty of fans too. I hope that the one who wrote this blog will also mention Pchy’s name. Thank you .

  28. RED/NIV // June 8, 2011 at 10:06 am //

Let me educate you Mr. Blogger once and for all that the name of the star you call as THE OTHER LEAD STAR is Witwisit hiranyawongkul a.k.a. PCHY. and just like Mario Maurer, he too was catapulted to fame via the movie THE LOVE OF SIAM. You may not have liked him I supposed but give him the credit also by recognizing his name because for your information, he is very much a part and parcel of the success of THE LOVE OF SIAM. Without him and Mario in it, then the movie wouldn’t have become the way it has become now.

You seemed to make it appear in your blog that it is only Mario Maurer who is the sole reason for the success of The Love of Siam. I must tell you quite frankly that you lack information about the movie for forgetting to mention the other lead star’s name. I repeat, his name is WITWISIT HIRANYAWONGKUL or PCHY as he is fondly called, if in the Philippines you think Mario is more popular then maybe I concede but you should remember that he is a superstar in CHINA, SINGAPORE, TAIWAN and in some other countries. infact during the survey for the most popular Thai actor in China, Pchy got more than 200 million votes while Mario got 45 thousand votes.
I love Mario Maurer too but you have to give the credit where the credit is due.

  29. You’re right Danilo, how could this maker of this blog call Pchy as the other lead star. It only goes to show that he doesn’t know many things about this movie.I would like to highlight here that The Love of Siam made two important stars, Witwisit Hiranyawongkul or Pchy and Mario Maurer. With out Pchy in the movie, this could not have been very popular.

  30. For the one who made this blog, ang kapal mo for calling Pchy as the other lead star. The Love of Siam won’t be as popular as it is today if not of Pchy too. The Love of Siam credits its success to the two lead stars, Mario and Pchy or Pchy and Mario. For your information, sikat na sikat si Pchy sa China, sa Taiwan, sa Singapore, sa Vietnam, sa Indonesia and in the Philippines so please don’t call him as the other lead star lang.

  31. Love of Siam…

I’ve watched it over and over again.. Yes it’s gay themed but it’s nothing like the gay themed indie movies here in the Phils na mas karadapat dapat na tawaging malaswa.

LOS tackles on identity crisis, growing up teenagers and their love live and family issues…. It’s not centered on a love story of same sex characters…

    It’s a great movie.

Kapamilya parin anu mang mangyari d n maaalis at tatak ng tUnay n kapamilya n mpagmahal.

  33. this is the movie i keep on watching over and over again… and again and again, it always gave tears to my eyes… sobrang ganda na nakakalungkot… huhuhu

  34. Love of Siam is a gay movie.

  35. Love of Siam is the best foreign-language movie for me…
