“Pilipinas Got Talent” grand winner Jovit Baldivino and now solo artist Juris were the big winners of the 2nd Tambayan OPM Awards 2011 held last Saturday (May 28) at SM City North Edsa SkyDome.

Different personalities in the music industry gathered in this event to give recognition to artists that support and push Original Pilipino Music (OPM) in the country.

Jovit bagged two awards namely the Best New Artist and the Best Male Artist, while Juris took home the Best Female Artist award. Her hit “Di Lang Ikaw” won Song of the Year.

The band Six Part Invention made a mark in the industry as it won the Band of the Year award, while the comeback efforts of 90s band Siakol paid off as it won the Album of the Year award.

Meanwhile, international Pinay singing sensation Charice Pempengco received the Tambayani Award that was first given to the late master rapper Francis Magallona. This award is being given to an artist who has great contributions to the Filipino music industry.

Wow Magic Sing’s jingle sang by Charice Pempengco also won in the Kantamersyal category.

Performances also pumped up the crowd in the jampacked SM SkyDome. Girls went wild and cheered when ‘Green Rose’ leading man Jericho Rosales and Asia’s Pop Idol Christian Bautista rendered song numbers. Jericho got the Best Live Performance award while Christian won the Best OPM Revival award for his hit single “Beautiful Girl.”

Other performers that night were Six Part Invention, Siakol, Itchyworms, Faith Cuneta, Maldita, Frio, Nei Dimaculangan, OJ Mariano, Liezel Garcia, Gloc 9, Mark Allain, Star Power 4 Akiko Solon, Monica Sacay, K-La Rivera, Krissel Valdes, and grand winner Angeline Quinto.

The Fiesta vibe also filled the air as DJ’s of Tambayan 101.9 stole the scene (and parade) when they paraded in different fiesta-themed costumes during the opening. DJ’s also gave a surprise number when they impersonated different personalities in the music and sports world.

Francine Prieto and Jason Gainza, who was dressed up as ‘Tito Bhoy,’ served as hosts for the night.
