RH Bill Debate in ‘Harapan’ on ABS-CBN and ANC

Pro and Anti RH Bill groups face-off in "Harapan" debate on ABS-CBN and ANC.

Personalities in favor and against the controversial Reproductive Health Bill (RH Bill) will go face-to-face this Sunday (May 8) for the “Harapan: RH Bill, Ipasa or Ibasura” live debate on ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best.

Multi-awarded news anchors Karen Davila and Julius Babao will moderate the timely event, which will offer a full-blown discussion on the issues surrounding the RH Bill such as morality, overpopulation, poverty, sex education, state intervention, and right to information.

ABS-CBN and the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, have put together a group of notable experts, legislators, and civil society leaders for this year’s very first “Harapan” debate.

Standing up against the RH Bill are Rep. Anthony Golez, Rep. Roilo Golez, Dr. Ligaya Acosta of Human Life International, Fr. Melvin Castro of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Atty. Jo Imbong of CBCP Family and Life and former Laguna Governor Joey Lina.

On the other side, Rep. Janette Garin and Rep. Edcel Lagman, two of the authors of the RH bill, Protestant Bishop Rodrigo Tano, Carlos Celdran, former Department of Health Sec. Esperanza Cabral, Beth Angsioco, and former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel will rally behind the Pro RH Bill.

Through “Harapan: RH Bill, Ipasa or Ibasura,” ABS-CBN and ANC aim to shed light on this controversial bill so people may be equipped with the right information to make a stand on the issue.

Don’t miss live simulcast of “Harapan: RH Bill, Ipasa or Ibasura” with Karen Davila and Julius Babao on ABS-CBN and ANC SkyCable ch. 27 this Sunday, May 8, 10:30 pm after “Pilipinas Got Talent.” Be heard. Join the online and text polls. You may also catch the HARAPAN via live streaming on www.abs-cbnnews.com or catch the repeat telecast on ANC this Monday (May 9) at 6am.

ask for scientist daw be if when really life begins? are moving single cell bacteria don’t have life? when there is already movement of cell that is already a sign of life…not necessarily at life begins at fertilization… however, the moving cell’s lifespan may either be long or short depending on the type and purpose of creation of that cell as programmed by God…when single cell bacteria start moving or has movement, it has already life and may create another more complex life in long period of time…but sperm cell is not only an ordinary bacteria but a moving cell from our own body blown by and shared by God with His spirit that will and can create also another complex form of life called fetus…and when that fetus become matured will be like us, human… i am anti-RH bill…hope this could reach and be considered for tonight discussions…

  2. Ipasa Ang Rh Bill: Sabi nang catholic church they are pro life kaya sila anti sa RH bill..pero pro life bang itinuturing na hahayaan lang natin na maraming babae ang namamatay dahil sa complication nang pregnancy?at maraming bata ang mamatay dahil sa malnutrition dahil ang income nang family ay hindi sapat sa dami nang mga anak? may ginawa ba ang church to perhaps prevent such cases?

i think, the problem in the over population rooted in our behavior…maybe because we lack the needed faith…we believe in Christ but we don’t follow His teachings…we go to church but we don’t take heed to the Words of God being preached in the church…and, we are slow in doing and transforming our faith into action, hence, making other people less knowledgeable and naive with the required information for our people to become responsible citizens…educate first and well our people before engaging in any development projects…start revisiting first our behaviors before creating more and more complex policies that often end up erroneous and have so many loopholes… and making our free space and freedom smaller and smaller and becoming limited (choking us), respectively…i am for anti-RH bill…i am a christian who believes that Jesus Christ is God, Creator and Savior..

kung may mismanagement ang government because of corruption, bakit hindi sinesermonan ng mga pari ang mga government officials to correct their attitude.dapat hindi sila pinapapasok sa simbahan, mahiya naman sila!!at sana ang simbahan magpakain naman sa mahihirap.

Maybe it’s high time we stop distorting religion and start thinking practically.

point: The opposition side said that over population is not the problem but rather the misgovernment of the government’s funds.

-Shame. we concede to the fact that it is one of the many cases that help spread poverty but let us think wise.

Even if there is sufficient budget given the good governance of the funds, what good will it be if it doesn’t really coincide with the disturbing growth of the population rate?

Can you find a person that was born because of sperm alone? lame reasons not to push RH Bill. What wuold you do to unwanted births? can you feed them all? Neither would the church accept those kids. by the way, churches never pay taxes. They’re not even a help to country’s progress.

like what have been said earlier. look around you! roam around. prolife they say. people specially mothers are dying, starving, uneducated, unemployed. for those religious hypocrites. no religion can save you. we are no longer in the age of adam and eve. rh bill only gives you a choice not to force you unlike what the church is saying. insisting and excumunication as a threat.

  15. RH bill will not solve the problems of our country…I think we have to educate the people. I like the stand of Gov. Joey Lina in the RH bill debate.

1 question to each of the pro RH bill debaters…How many children do you each have?

  17. One of my concerns is teaching grade 5 students about sex education. As a parent, this is a BIG CONCERN!Please READ about the details of the bill because this is in the bill. Please consider also the side effects of the artificial contraceptives that would affect us women, in the long run.Thanks.

The law is there to protect us from ourselves, when we seek choices which are wrong. Those who prioritize choice over life need this protection. Therefore, RH Bill must not be passed. And if passed, I would still not subscribe to the choices this bill brings with it.

if we are christians, we should respect any sign of human life…a moving sperm is already a sign of life..why when there were men trapped below the earth due to earthquake we want many of them to survive? why we are after for any proof of human life in any earthquake situation? or why explore outside our earth for any other life form? is it because we are also showing respect for any life form other than us in the universe? why the government is pushing on such RH-bill? for aid from other rich countries to control us thru UN?…i am for anti-RH bill…

  21. The fact that the RH Bill has been edited, modified, reworded, made more “palatable” 7 times over is so suspicious.

  22. Maria sheila Cababan Baylosis // May 9, 2011 at 12:05 am //

Pro ako sa RH Bill: Majority of Phil population are poor. In poorest of the poor communities, many families are dysfunctional as a result of irresponsible parenthood..for most cases, these are families whose father/husbands are alcoholic and drug addict in which women/wives are powerless to resist when they are not willing to have sex..so with this, many women are suffering for unwanted pregnancies and multiple burden of rearing many children w/ no regular income..this situation resulted to the increase rate of malnourished children..& if not responded resulted to mortality..

RH BILL WILL NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM ITS JUST TO GIVE WAY TO IMMORALITY!!!!

  26. How is the aid (about US $430 million) for the RH bill implementationfrom the United States be given to the Philippines, in the form of grant or loan? in kind or monetary kind? How involved is the US here? Do they have a say in the bidding process and implementation? Do we have to buy the family planning contraceptives from them? Please relay and ask these from the lawmakers. This is very important since most of the discussions are about the pros and cons only. This has to be discussed as well.

  29. Just a question how come most of the people who are anti RH Bill are the rich people? and these people have they tried going to public hospital be admitted on charity ward? No they haven’t. Why dont try staying in public hospital charity ward for a week then talk to me about RH Bill after that.

    GOOD ARGUMENTS CONG. GOLEZ!

  37. Anonymous // May 8, 2011 at 11:48 pm //

OVERPOPULATION IS NOT THE REASON OF POVERTY., IT IS CORRUPTION. AND PHILS. IS NOT OVERPOPULATED IN THE 1ST PLACE…

  39. when there is already movement of cell that is already a sign of life…not necessarily at fertilization life begins…however, the moving cell’s lifespan may either be long or short depending on the type and purpose of creation of that cell as programmed by God…when a single cell bacteria starts moving or has movement, it has already life and may create another more complex life in long period of time…but sperm cell is not only an ordinary bacteria but a moving cell from our own body blown by and shared by God with His spirit that will and can create also another complex form of life called fetus…and when that fetus become matured will be like us, human… i am anti-RH bill…

kung kasalanan ang magpigil ng pregnancy by artificial means, am sure walang makapasok sa heaven KASI LAHAT NG LALAKI PATI YANG MGA PARI AT POPE NAGMAMASTURBATE DIN YANG MGA IYAN SO NAGTATAPON DIN YAN NG TAMOD. SO ANONG IPINAG-IBA NYAN SA PAGGAMIT NG CONDOM ETC. hYPOCRISY OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH LANG YAN .

  48. I thought you do not allow foul and offensive language on this blog. On reading the published posts, it is disgusting to note that the only language many seem to know is nothing but foul and offensive. I would recommend that they first learn how to read, then read and understand the consolidated bill of the 15th Congress before inflicting their foul language on those seriously interested in understanding the ramifications of the bill before making a stand on whether to oppose or support it.

  49. laban ako sa bill na ito // May 7, 2011 at 8:52 pm //
