Hi guys. I’m a kpop fan and also a fan of the so-called P-pop :)Some of us think that P-pop copied Kpop which is slightly true …for me. But please don’t BASH these guys..the P-pop guys. They are still Filipinos [some are HALF but STILL FILIPINO ] and so are we. We are Filipinos. We must support each other. . . Just like the Koreans.

  4. ok naman tong group na ito…the only risk is…kulang pa sila sa workshop…they have the looks…ok naman mga itsura nila sa personal..yun nga lang sa ating industry dito sa philippines nilalabas kahit di pa ganun ka refine.

  9. I am so amused reading the comments of Miss Style and Pakoment as both of them definitely have good things to share.

In my own opinion, I agree with Pakoment about the facial features of these boys as it really looks korean and as a mere spectator, you cannot blame them if they think that this is a KPOP rip off as it is clear that they all look korean trying hard to do a KPOP scene here in the philippines.

As for Miss Style, it is true that the song “Merry Christmas Na” is really an OPM in nature the only Kpop influence there is the rap part and making the song taglish. If i hear this single sang by a bunch of normal looking filipinos, likely it is more believable that it is OPM.

Showbiz is for SHOW after all and I think this is the group’s plan to be successful nonetheless. And KPOP really made a big influence in our country. Putting Korean looking boys adding OPM songs might just work after all.

  10. You have my utmost respect, Miss Style. I guess we can decide to agree on a disagreement.

  11. I HAVE HIGH RESPECTS FOR YOU PAKOMENT.

WE MAY NOT AGREE IN MANY THINGS BUT WE CAN AGREE TO RESPECT ONE ANOTHER.

AND SO AS TO OTHERS WHO JUDGE AND LABEL 1:43. IF THEY ARE NOT YOUR TYPE OF BOY BAND, OR MUSIC, THEN LET THEM BE. LET THEM GROW.

IF YOU THINK THE ARE IMITATING KPOP, AGAIN, LET THEM BE. FOR THE GREATEST ARTISTS BEGAN IN IMITATING THEIR MASTERS UNTIL THEY FOUND THEIR TRUEST STYLE.

  12. To MAGSITIGIL NA KAYO PAKOMENT AT MISS STYLE: If they are enough for you then stop reading, you’re not the only one who reads. And btw, Ignorance kills.

  13. MAGSITIGIL NA KAYO PAKOMENT AT MISS STYLE // November 30, 2010 at 9:49 pm //

For me, your clarifications are enough.

  14. typo errors from my previous post:

    1) at #2. …whatever the reason is, they chose to FORM a group that…

    2) last paragraph. …like sensational korean pop stars since no one in our industry HAS done so before…

    🙂

  15. 1. Yeah, we are getting somewhere, exactly my point. that korean fashion is a european influence. I guess this one’s closed.

    2. Exactly. I cant think of anything else. The Korean look that is. Now taking the next step, next point is why look Korean? Whatever the reason is, they chose to a group of boys who will look like a bunch of Koreans and are expected to be perceived as such. How? by music of course. you can’t simply put effort in making them look like Koreans and then expect them to perform RnB, or HipHop. Of course their music will be like that of their Korean origins.

    3. the phrase “sounds KPop” doesn’t necessarily equate to “is KPop”, but i wouldn’t say it sounds Kpop, rather it feels like listening to sound of KPop. Why? because i think i’ve heard this music before, which oh btw apparently is from a certain Korean band. Even if i get to know later on that the lyrics and the essence (if you may), has been changed accordingly, my opinion wouldn’t change.

    4. Yes, TWO contexts. they way i’ve used it really. first use of the word is OPM as organization, and second use of the word OPM as music. Read again. It’s all written there, in context.

    5. From point #3, your vantage point: one, quality of lyrics. two, the music’s core concept, which is tied with the band’s profile: korean charm combined with OPM. For the former, this is superficial. Of course there should be significant distinctness at some point, otherwise it becomes a complete rip-off. For the latter, the level of the concept is too up there already, which no longer touches on the real essence of what an original music is and what isn’t. i mean c’mon, my point and I am guessing the point of almost everyone else in here also is that the music of 1:43 sounds so Korean, and that it having Tagalog lyrics and/or Pinoy values orientation doesn’t make it “original” Pinoy, as everyone would agree as “original” Pinoy. It is important to point out here that being original (whether it be music, or any other form) without thinking deeply of its truest essence is equal to being able to reaffirm something that is unique on its own. In other words, i’d say something is original if it doesn’t make me remember any other that will make resemblance to it. This fact makes it highly subjective. But the apparentness in the case of 1:43 is so great, that it makes it so convenient for most to think that it isn’t original, And yes, i still think it is not original.

As for your concept of being original, that is, by means of being able to do something that hasn’t been done before, as to our case: being original by means looking like sensational Korean pop stars since no one in our industry hasn’t done so before, if then so nothing will ever come off as a rip-off, don’t you think?

  17. Miss Style // November 30, 2010 at 7:37 pm //

    To Pakoment:

    (1. You don’t have to wear a Korean Brand to look like a Korean.)
I COMPLETELY AGREE. MY POINT IS KOREAN FASHION IS ACTUALLY INSPIRED BY EUROPEAN FASHION. IT IS NOT THEIR OWN. THEY NEVER INVENTED TIGHT PANTS, TO BE EXACT.

    2. I believe there is a certain reason why these boys of such facial features were picked as a group.
THE LOOK IS IN. ARE THERE ANY REASON YOU CAN THINK OF?

    3. Maybe, their music is not Korean rip-off. Just upbeat, so generic, yeah. But I know music from U.S., U.K. also are upbeat, same as those from Korea. Hmmm, what makes a difference, oh I don’t know. maybe they shouldn’t be expected not to sound Korean, and they just so happened look Korean. What do you think? I can’t identify, enlighten me, please.
IN THEIR PROFILE, IT SAYS 1:43 IS A FUSION OF KOREAN CHARM AND OPM. LET’S SEE WHAT THEY’LL OFFER NEXT. BUT TO SAY THAT “MERRY CHRISTMAS NA” SOUNDS KPOP IS UNFOUNDED. IT HAS A LOT OF TRADITIONAL UPBEAT CHRISTMAS SONG ELEMENTS AND THE LYRICS ARE JUST SO FILIPINO– EVEN IF IT’S IN TAGLISH FASHION.

    4. Darling, OPM is just an organization. OPM (the music) has existed way before the organization itself, during the time when people could easily identify the music they’re playing. Review semiotics, darling.
OPM WAS USED IN TWO CONTEXTS: 1. AS AN ORGANIZATION WHO GAVE THE DEFINITION OF 2. A MUSICAL GENRE CALLED OPM (ORIGINAL PILIPINO MUSIC). READ AGAIN MY EARLIER POST AND YOU’LL STUPID. IT WAS ALL WRITTEN THERE.

Lastly, Korean music is so apparent in the country. And it was successful in influencing the country. All you have to do is open your eyes. I don’t think a sort of music such as 1:43′s will exist in any way (as an original OPM if you insist), otherwise.
TRUE. BUT NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE A WICKED SPIN OFF OF THE KOREAN POP CULTURE INVASION, THEY ARE NOT OPM (IN THE MUSIC GENRE CONTEXT). ACTUALLY THEIR EXISTENCE IS AN ORIGINAL CONCEPT. GETTING FILIPINOS WHO LOOK KOREAN WHO WOULD SING OPM HAS NOT BEEN DONE EVER BEFORE. THAT’S ORIGINALITY, DON’T YOU THINK?

  18. To MissStyle:

  19. Miss Style // November 30, 2010 at 5:30 pm //

IF YOU THINK THAT THEIR STYLE IS KOREAN, YOU ARE WRONG. ALMOST 90% OF THE CLOTHES THEY WORE IN THE MUSIC VIDEO ARE ZARA, WHICH IS A EUROPEAN BRAND. ZARA IS A MICROCOSM OF EUROPEAN FASHION.

IF YOU TELL ME THAT THEY LOOK KOREAN BECAUSE OF THEIR FACIAL FEATURES, I WOULD AGREE. AT A CERTAIN POINT THEY REALLY DO.

IF YOU TELL ME THEIR MUSIC IS A COPYCAT TO KOREAN MUSIC, I’LL TELL YOU, DON’T FLAUNT YOUR IGNORANCE. MAKE A KPOP FAN HEAR IT WITHOUT LOOKING AT THEM AND THEY WOULD ALL SAY IT’S A TYPICAL UPBEAT SONG.

AND IF YOU TELL ME IT’S NOT OPM, I’LL TELL YOU, SHUT UP YOU DON’T KNOW AGAIN WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. ORGANISAYON NG MGA PILIPINONG MANG-AAWIT (OPM) DEFINES OPM IN THREE WAYS:

    A. A SONG WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY A FILIPINO
    B. A FOREIGN SONG PERFORMED BY A FILIPINO
    C. A FILIPINO SONG PERFORMED BY A FOREIGNER

SO 1:43 IS AN OPM ACT. THEY ARE FILIPINOS PERFORMING AN ORIGINAL FILIPINO SONG WRITTEN AND PRODUCED BY A FILIPINO.

IF YOU TELL ME THEY SEEM TO BE INFLUECED BY KPOP, I’LL ASK YOU, IN WHICH WAY? LOOKS WISE, I WOULD AGREE. BUT IF YOU INSIST THAT THEIR MUSIC IS A COPYCAT, AGAIN, SHUT UP, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING.

BUT IF YOU TELL ME YOU DON’T LIKE THE CONTENT OF THE SONG. YOU MAY HAVE A POINT. IT’S A MATTER OF TASTE. I RESPECT THAT.

  27. I love this group!

  28. CmusicloverC // November 30, 2010 at 10:18 am //

FYI, P-POP and other Asian POP are music genres.

Crab mentality poisons the mind and heart of most music lovers.

1:43 is read as one forty-three and means I LOVE YOU.. 🙂

  31. CmusicloverC // November 30, 2010 at 10:04 am //

I am a KPOP fan but I also admire how this group differs from most of the Korean icons. They might look like Koreans because of their style. They are in fact models, especially Yuki and Kim. Three of them have Chinese blood while Yuki is the only member who is half-Japanese. And so? They want to show their talents in the Philippines as Filipinos.

I agree with Marissa. 1:43 is read as one forty three. The group is formed because of love to our own music.

MAGAGAWA NATIN! 🙂

  36. marissa lopez // November 30, 2010 at 1:01 am //

FYI, ang 1:43 ang meaning is I LOVE YOU. 1960s po nauso ang term na yan, wala pa noong KPop, wala pa noong PPop. at lalong wala pa noong 2PM. sabi nga ni kim, ang 1:43 is TIME FOR LOVE. kung sa palagay nyo ginaya pa rin sa 2PM ang pangalan nila eh ewan ko na lang kung anong utak meron kayo! peace!

  37. I’m a true Pinoy and I will support Filipino Artists.

  38. Tama k Iza, tska nkakahiya nmn cguro n ipagmalaki sa buong mundo ung ganun kung at the first place alam mu n ginaya lang. . . di nmn sa pagiging crab mentality guys, think of it sa international contest b for example american idol, my sumisikat b n nggagaya lang. kc judges look for originality and ung factor n sau lan. . . same din as viewers. .

    tsk.!

  41. korekorekok nga penyoko…kikay love them,,go go go 1:43 ang mga chaka na iingit na naman

  42. f4? haha

  43. lets just let them do their stuff. of you don’t like them wag na lang pansinin at least walang Crab mentality na nangyayari. on the other hand if you like them support them!!!

  44. Isn’t charice or arnel even copying foreign artists as well? the only thing here is Pinoys are used to KPOP that even when new Pinoy band exist, they neglect to appreciate it. Have you heard the song? it’s purely Tagalog, and yes to the looks must be copycat for some say, but as evolution of fashion, that’s no excuse. The crab-mentality and poor appreciation of Filipinos made them down. (sigh)

  45. Quite frankly, the reason why popsters like these don’t get successful is because they are just copycats of foreign acts like Korean and Japanese boy bands.

Offer Pinoy fandom something new and different, and they will be interested.

Offer us the same old copied shtick and we will lose interest

  46. this is one step para buhayin ang pop boy band sa philippines, why not just support them. Dont be crab minded.. Hindi naman panggagaya lang ang pwedeng itawag jan, it’s evolution, kaya ang dami na ring japan, thai at taiwanese na nag-eevolve as pop boy bands dahil sa trend. Now, it’s time for Philippines.
