GMA’s ‘MariMar’ to be Aired in Nationwide China

More than 1 billion Chinese will be able to watch GMA's version of MariMar which launched the career of Primetime Queen Marian Rivera.

According to a report from the corporate communications department of GMA-7 regarding the Kapuso network’s achievements for the first half of 2010, the network’s adaptation of the hit Mexican telenovela “MariMar” was acquired by a national television network in China last June. It will be dubbed in Mandarin and more than 1 billion Chinese will be able to watch the said Philippine telenovela.

The Philippine edition of MariMar launched the career of Marian Rivera in 2007. It was aired from August 13, 2007 to March 14, 2008 on channel 7. It also launched the hit love team of Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes as called by their fans as “Dongyan.”

MariMar was also the very first Mexican show to be adapted on Philippine television. It’s original version which starred Thalia was the first foreign hit on Philippine television when its tagalized version was aired by RPN 9 in the 90’s.

During the airing of GMA’s MariMar, it conquered not only Mega Manila’s tv ratings but also the nationwide primetime race as well. It is undoubtedly one of Kapuso Network’s most successful programs to date.

Aside from China, MariMar is also beging negotiated to be aired in Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. If it becomes a hit in the said countries, then Marian Rivera‘s other hit series like Dyesebel and Darna will most likely follow suit.
