‘Nurse Jackie’ to Premiere Tonight on Velvet

Take a walk on the wild side with New York's most infamous nurse. Velvet, the country's premium general entertainment channel for women, premieres the half-hour dark comedy Nurse Jackie on Aug. 12, Thursday at 9:30pm.

Three-time Emmy Award winner Edie Falco returns to series television as the strong-willed and brilliant–but very flawed–emergency room nurse Jackie Peyton, R.N. Working in the complicated and frenzied All Saints’ Hospital in New York City, Nurse Jackie finds herself caught in a complex battle of Saint vs. Sinner – vacillating between being a caring nurse/dedicated wife/mother and an adulterer/vigilante/prescription painkillers addict.

The oddity of Nurse Jackie’s character makes the show more thrilling to watch. As co-executive producer Richie Jackson described, “Jackie always tries to do the right thing even if her means are unconventional…Things aren’t always black and white, right or wrong and that’s where Jackie lives – in the grey.”

Nurse Jackie has her plate full daily juggling patients, doctors, fellow nurses and her own recklessness. But amid all the struggles, pains and ethical quandaries of this first-rate nurse is a woman who lives day by day doing her job well without letting anyone or anything get in the way.

The show quickly gained a large following in the U.S., and was immediately renewed for a second season after only one telecast. And with its huge following and great reviews, Nurse Jackie has gained several nominations from various award-giving bodies this year including nominations for Falco as Lead Actress in a Comedy Series from the 2010 Golden Globe Awards, the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards and the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

Get your weekly dose of Nurse Jackie every Thursday, 9:30pm on the country’s premium general entertainment channel for women, Velvet on SkyCable Channel 53. Velvet is now available on SkyCable Platinum, SkyCable Gold, SkyCable Silver and other quality cable operators nationwide.
